After reading so many negative reviews of WCC, I'm wondering if I made a mistake. We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge, so I thought it would be fun to go on our first night, but now I'm reading that people are actually getting sick from the food. The menu looked good to everyone in my family.
There's really nothing I can do about changing now - we'll be eating there next week, and I doubt I'd be able to get another reservation anywhere else this late.
Thanks :)

We have eaten there three times and we have always enjoyed it. The kids absolutely love it there because of the atmosphere but we have all liked the food too. We have gotten the skillet a couple of times which is good but my husband also had a really good prime rib there too. The milkshakes are great too--they are included as a beverage on the dining plan and you can refill them as many times as you want and can even change the flavor on your refill. I think we liked the caramel milkshake the best.

we last ate there in Feb 09. It was delicious and no body in our crew got sick.

We didn't get sick from eating there when we went the end of Feb. 2009. I didn't read about anyone getting sick from there.:confused3 I thought the food was kind of blah though. My DH and I ordered the skillet meal and thought it was really greasy. However, the corn bread was delish and our waiter was awesome! Plus the amotsphere is really silly and fun!:thumbsup2 Since you're staying at WL, I'd keep your reservation and at least try it for yourselves! Especially since you liked the menu too! Have an awesome time!!:goodvibes

We ate at WCC this past December. I had the skillet and it wasn't the best food I have ever had, but it wasn't bad either. My DBF got the Porterhouse Steak and he loved it. I think it was 48oz and he ate every bite. He also loved the bottomless milkshakes. He had about 3 of them!

We go to WCC on our arrival night every trip. We love the antics, but also really love the food. We have the skillet normally but have also had the steak, both are very good. If I felt even the least bit sick even once I wouldn't risk going at all let alone our first night. We love the bottomless milkshakes and the desserts are great, though we always have to take them to go (too full!)

Every restaurant is open to opinions, hopefully yours is a positive one after you go, ours certainly is! It is one of our favorites and a must do!

We've been there many times and are going back this July! Never had any sickness in our crew. Give every restaurant a try once; don't let negative reviews on the DIS keep you from trying something!

We've really enjoyed all our experiences at WCC in a half-dozen or so visits. It's just a fun place, and a carnivore's dream.

Don't let any reviews you read on these boards sway you too much, including this one. ;)

We eat at WCC every trip and truly enjoy the food!

Never gotten sick there. But I personally think the lunch menu is much better than the dinner menu.

We have eaten at Whispering Canyon Cafe a few times, thought not in a year or two. Every time we have enjoyed it. We've order the skillet and also a number of other dishes, including a vegetarian dish or two and have never gotten sick.

We'll most likely be making an ADR for here when we go back in the fall.

I agree with all the other posts -- the milkshakes are so good!

we LOVE it!!!! and can't wait to go back in June:banana:We've always had a great time there and the food has always been really really good, and no one got sick. I will never forget seeing my favorite uncle the tough ex marine doing I'm a little tea pot with all the other men, or being given the GIANT surf board sized bottle of Ketchup:lmao::lmao::lmao: This is one of the few places my family insist we go to Every time we go to WDW

Their chicken soup is amazing!

We stumbled upon WCC last time we were in town because our plans changed. The atmosphere was so much fun, and certainly the food was good enough make us want to go back again!

I think the key is not having unreasonable expectations, like the fries will be dusted in gold :rotfl:

Thanks to everyone for all the quick replies. You all made me feel so much better about going there!
Thanks again :)

I never had dinner, but breakfast is something we REALLY enjoy, we get the all you can eat breakfast and bottomless milk shakes. I know, weird combo, but it is a once in a blue moon sort of thing :thumbsup2

The only sickness I got was from drinking too much tea.

If you ask a 'secret' way, they replace your glass with a half gallon jar!

I'll post a pic if I can find one.

I am not a rib person, but the bbq ribs on the skillet were the best I've had. I've had no complaints about the food at all. My DW enjoyed the milkshakes. We will be going to WC next trip.

Think about it - the thousands and thousands and thousands of diners (even the many hundreds of recent diners) who've eaten there with no problem aren't going to come to any message board and post, "We ate at ___ and DIDN'T get sick!" :teeth:

We eat there every trip - dh and I love that skillet and dd5 is looking forward to it too this time (now that she's discovered she likes chicken legs). The only time anyone has ever gotten sick was dd after she ate a bunch of greasy food and she had not taken her reflux medication for a couple of days (actually forgot it at home - finally got something new called in on day 4 of the trip).

In addition to the food, we like the atmosphere and antics of the restaurant. And we all had a good laugh when dd's friend drank her first coke to fast and they brought out this huge glass that must have held a gallon - and she drank it all too.

DS8 and I went last August and shared a dinner skillet. My very picky eater DS ate the shrimp(which I think they have removed from the skillet), pulled pork, ribs and the corn bread. He loved it. I thought the food was good too-neither one of us felt sick from it. I hope it is as good this August:)

Wow! We just came back two weks ago....and 3 out of 5 of us got VERY sick after eating at the Wispering Canyon. It was one of our favorite restaurants in the past...mostly for the fun antics....but now there is no way that I could eat there again.

Do you know where I can find the thread where people were talking about becoming sick? I am almost postivie that I had food poisoning. It was not pretty............
