Just wondering if anyone else thought this would be a better system than the express pass you have to pay for?
I love univeral a lot but i just think there express pass seems a bit unfair, its kinda forcing people to pay as the queues get so big.
Whats your opinions?

HECK NO...I like it the way it is..Yes it costs more, but I will stay onsite as long as that is a perk for resort guests. If I have to pay for it, so be it.I will budget for it accordingly..I like the not having to clock watch, carry little pieces of paper around, crisscross the parks to use the pieces of paper and clock watch some more.My first trip was in Jan and It was the best, most relaxed trip of my life.Universal once had a program like Disneys and they went to their current system which I think works fine.

They had a free Express system for YEARS (2000-2005). It worked well if used correctly. Sometimes, though, the express line would be longer than the regular line. And the most popular rides always ran out of Express by noon.

The current system is fine. They don't force you to buy Express. You purchase it by your own free will! A good touring plan, use of single riders, and knowing the best times to visit work wonderfully. It also helps keep the Express lines shorter, which keeps the regular lines shorter.

Oh yes i do remember that now! i just dont think i did manage to get one of them as i know what you mean about them running out. I think the reason i would prefer FP's like disney is because im way to tight on my budget:rotfl:

Go during the off season. You'll save $ on hotel and crowds will be less!

Nope!!!

I like the Unlimited Express Pass with staying at the hotel very much, and as DM says nobody forces you to buy the Express Pass on the gate.

You could also argue allowing onsite Disney guests the EMH is a bit unfair to non resort staying guests. You pays your money you takes your choice.

So to answer your question...no I don`t think they should have FP like Disney :)

absolutely not to idea of free EPs, imo it devalues staying onsite

i'm not thrilled with how long the EPs have been some days, but I remind myself that revenues generated by those who purchase the EP help the parks' bottom line & help to keep quality high.

If they did offer free EP, then they should in turn offer true FOTL perc to onsite guests that would bypass the EP line.

fyi, although I don't see disney charging for FPs they do now intend to follow the stated return time and it's been rumored for years that they have trademarked methodology of allowing additional FPs to be issued based upon level of spending/resort, etc.

Yeah...big changes coming to FP and I don't think a pay FP is too far down the line. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I'm a big fan of leave it like it is. If you want it pay for it or stay onsite.
There are big changes coming to WDW as well, and I don't doubt "free for all" will be a thing of the past.

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!

Staying onsite at Universal makes it so enjoyable. You don't have to plan a thing, a true vacation.:thumbsup2

No way! Onsite unlimited Express is the way to go. We have to budget for it and so we don't get to visit often...once every 3 or 4 years but to me it is worth it. Makes for a very relaxing vacation!

Funny when our family is at Disney we wish they had either the Express Pass you can purchase or Unlimited Express benefits for on-site guests like Universal. I know that Disney has so many more guest rooms on-site that an Unlimited Express type of system would not work but we still wish it could.....maybe as a benefit for the deluxe hotel guests??? :confused3 I would pay to stay Deluxe with this benefit.

We will especially be longing for the Universal benefits on our next Disney trip with the enforcement of the Fastpass return time. :sad2:

Are you serious??

why would it make it a better system?

i don't see your logic at all.

you make choices in life.
if i chose to stay on site for the perks given to guests, it's a drawing card for me.
why would i wish to give that up?

the system works just fine.
the free express pass system that was in effect some years back had glitches to it.
i used it then and like Darkie said, it created longer lines.

no one is forced to buy the express pass plus tickets.
it is an option.
same as the option of going to SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, the motherland, the darkside for a vacation.

how you spend your money is a personal thing.

at the darkside, there are single rider lines, child swap, for those that want to cut their wait time for rides.
no charge for those options.

like patsal and metro west mentioned, fast pass won't be free for that much longer at the motherland. rumors and speculations on how it will be changed in the future.
near future.

read some of the threads on that side of peeps stating how unfair that is.

i see it as an option for the guests at any park they go to.
if you want shorter waits for rides and shows, buy the specific ticket to allow you to do so.

if your time is limited, you have to decide what your priorities will be.

jude, have you looked at the prices of the motherland deluxe rooms in the MK section?

when i saw over $800 a night for my stay, i knew then that it just wasn't gonna happen for me.

i'd rather spend my money on food and booze.
which is my choice.

which leads me back to what i said earlier.
i have options and chose what is best for me.

As expressed earlier in the thread, I think the fact that Disney is clearly heading more towards what Universal is doing speaks volumes to what customers are saying they want. Disney would never implement something like Xpass if it was shown to be a failure.

I tell everyone I bring to universal (always staying onsite to get passes) that they will never experience a theme park like this again and it will spoil them when they go anywhere else. I was so excited to see Disney about to roll out something new as that will increase my desire to take my family there by at least a factor of 10.

Mac - $800 :scared1: good point.

I'm with you food, booze, rides and Unlimited Express pass :)

We are Darkside converts with little forays into the Motherland. Love the deluxe hotels at Universal and the benefits we get of walking to the parks and Unlimited Express Pass to name just two.

Two weeks booked at HRH this summer. :thumbsup2

I wish they offered something similar to FPs.

The timeframes I'm considering are peak - spring break and since Uni only has 3 onsite hotels, the cheapest is $359 per night. That is way outside my price range. I'm not spending that much on all three nights total at my offsite condo. At least at Disney I can choose Value resorts and spend a somewhat decent price. If I could only choose Deluxe resorts at Disney, then I wouldn't ever stay there onsite either.

out of curiosity, i priced a room only at the motherland at a value resort.
(ASP)
for the first week of April, each night is $164.
add tax and it's higher.

to make it a preferred, add more.

kind of shows what prices are for peak season even if it is a value resort.

i'm sure an off site condo would even be cheaper than a value resort at the motherland during spring break.

i do the motherland in late september.
weekends then are $127 while weekdays are less.

Express is excellent at Universal. They won't change it since it keeps people staying onsite. Offsite hotels are way too close and would take away a ton of business if the onsite hotels didn't offer something special.

When there were free express passes at Universal, Guest services was always filled with complaints because they ran out so early.
