Does anyone else know about FastPass?

Just got back from our trip a week ago and we noticed that while we were walking on rides with our FastPasses, many other people were willing to wait on 90 minute lines for Splash Mountain, or Expedition Everest, etc... I almost felt guilty as I walked past the endless line of people waiting (some even giving us dirty looks). Then I couldn't help but wonder... Why didn't THEY get FastPasses too?

Is FastPasses a well kept secret to those outside the Disboards? Even if you didn't know going in, wouldn't you ask around and figure out how these other people are walking right past you and getting on the ride before you?

I guess I shouldn't complain. The short FastPasses lines made my life easier.

It is not a secret at all, it is printed right in the park maps. Some people don't take the time to read.

It's also possible that those people already have FPs for another ride at that time, so are unable to get another one and choose to wait in line.

It is amazing isn't it??? I ask that almost every time we go. I DO think there is a lgood size population that just doesn't know about it or understand it. I also think there is a mindset of this is WHERE we are, WHEN we are and we are going to ride it, no matter what the times are. I have been to Disney 9 out of the last 10 years, wehave never waited more then 30 minutes for any ride. (I think i have been stuck on a broken down ride longer then I have waited in line for a ride.)

Glad you had a great trip

I've noticed that, also. It's disconcerting at times. It's like, why wouldn't you take advantage of this great system? And if you "know how to work it," there ISN'T any waiting in long lines while you're letting your FP time come closer. You're off enjoying something with continous loading, or a show, or a meal, or a...Anything other than standing in the 90 minute standby line!

The free FastPass system is the #1 reason why I won't go back to Universal, besides the fact I can't ride most of their thrill rides. Having to PAY for the equivalent FP over there, AND the thing is only good for one time through, just burned my britches.

Actually, the new park maps do not have information on Fastpass other than to show which rides have it.

Its not a secret. But some people don't read or if they do don't understand it ..Or assume it is like other amusement or themeparks where you have to pay for the privelage of bypassing lines..

Most people just don't understand FP. We have heard people in the standby grumbling so many times "Must be nice to afford it." The information is readily available, people just don't bother taking the time to find out about it.

There are people right here on the Dis who post (repeatedly) that they don't use Fastpass, and/or that they think Fastpass should be done away with. They make comments like, "Is is so hard to just stand in line?"

I think some people think it is like a badge of honor not to use Fastpass.

I agree a lot of it is just ignorance, though. Although now that Fastpass+ is being added to just about every attraction, including some where it is ridiculously useless, I don't know how even the most clueless visitor could miss it.

Could it be that since some people think WDW and USO/IoA are connected, they also think you have to pay for WDW FP's?

I mean, I have seen people wondering where HP's castle is.....

That may be part of it .At Uni/IOA it costs to have express pass ( unless you are an onsite resort guest ,than it is included as a perk...and it is very nice)

A lot of those people in the standby line may be holding a FP for another ride that has them shut out of getting another for the ride they are standing in line for. The fast passes may be gone if the ride is popular. Also they may be big fans of that ride and want repeated rides.

I don't get it either, and what really gets me are the looks you get, as if you're somehow cutting the line. I think PP are right about some people thinking you have to pay for FP. As much as I've told my aunt that they're free, she *still* insists that at least when they were there you had to pay. Whatever.

I know some guests are just now aware of FP but.....

after speaking with many people througout the years at resorts, at the parks, in the restaurants, I don't, IMHO, think it is so much this as the fact that there are only so many hours in the day and so many FP a family can get with in ONE park on ONE day. If you do not have a park hopper and are then "stuck' in one park for the entire day, at some point you are going to be waiting in loooong lines to ride the attractions you could not get a FP for.

I guess that's where arriving at rope drop also comes into play. Rope drop + smart FP use and you're almost unstoppable!

Agree! I refuse to wait more than 30 mins for a ride (and that is usually only one or two times) and I very rarely miss anything I want to see.

I've had people ask me how much they cost. I've also heard someone say in standby "they have a special card" when we passed them in the fastpass lane.

I think some people don't know that it's free, but I also think some people have a warped view of the return times. They think we can wait 1 hour to ride now or come back in 3 hours with a FP. Waiting 1 hour gets them on the ride faster, so they wait. They don't realize how much they could get done on other rides during that time instead of waiting.

This is exactly right. Most people want to do this ride now. FastPass is reward for the patient.
