so quickly as I do? My IT dept hates me. I have no Idea what I do, but I break a mouse at least once a month. Now my scrolly thingie is not working, and my ball is no longer rolling smooth!!!

You should try an optical mouse. It doesn't have a ball!
I have a Logitech, it may last you quite a while:D

What are you doing to that mouse Uncle Tony?:teeth: I've never had to have one replaced.:)

Sorry to hear that your ball is no longer rolling smoothly :p :teeth:

Optical, Tony. Your problems will be over. That little ball that is used for motion control in the mouse is the biggest source of failure, generally from dust and grit. Optical.

Tony, get some alcohol and some q-tips and clean it. You can take the back off and get rid of a bunch of lint.
We used to have those kinds of problems, but not anymore. :)

Optical, thanks for the suggestions.

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong!

YES I cleaned my ball! but it's still not smooth!

Well, you just went through all my ideas. :)

I can't believe you go through one a month, that's incredible.

You are just talented, huh? I use an optical mouse, like Dan suggested.

Tony you need a softer touch my man. Are you slamming that thing on the desk??? Try opitcal, it may help. But don't be so rough

I have a Logitech Marble Mouse. It's optical with a marble ball on top. I won't work if the sun is shining directly on it, but I love it. Have one at home too. I was going to mice a lot too, but I've had my Marble Mouse at work for over a year, and it's still working great.

We go through one about every 8 months or so. But ours just quit working as well as when new and we replace.

We've been using the optical Microsoft Intellimouse. We have 4 computers. Never a problem.

Good luck,

Herc.

you have to learn to treat mouse balls gently, Tony. I bet they don't like it rough.

When my son was younger, he used to take out his computer game frustrations on the mouse. He kept cracking the circuit board inside the mouse by slamming his fist down when things weren't going well. At that time I was working for a company that was throwing away dozens of mice each month (since they came bundled with the video card that we were using), so I was able to get free replacements. When that supply dried up, I explained to James that he was going to have to pay for the next mouse. Believe it or not, that last free mouse has lasted for YEARS.

If you clean your mouse, don't forget to scrape the crud off the rollers inside the mouse. That usually helps get things rolling smoothly.
