Does anyone else get this when going solo?

I am going to disney solo in September, and keep being asked why I don't take my sister's triplets with me!!!! Apart from the fact that escorting 3 12 year olds seems more dangerous than a camping trip in Iraq my sister doesn't want me to spend that much money on her children.

THat is freaking hilarious!! I have a ds so I never get this but thought your comparison to an iraqi camping trip was hilarious!

My sisters know that when I plan a solo trip to WDW, it actually means a solo trip to WDW. I do go with them, when I can, but go solo too. We were planning a long weekend at the end of this August, but that had to be put on the back burner, but it looks like we may go sometime early next year. I think I would be a wreck trying to do the parks with 3 kids. When I went with my sister and her family in 2004, we did split up a few times (I had the youngest one), since he wanted to do a couple of attractions that his brothers did not want to do, but kept the cell phones handy to meet back up again. I did not mind this at all, as it was just one-on-one.

I made the mistake one year of taking my niece and her friend.... my niece was 12, the friend was 9

the friend was the problem she was very independent.... and kept going her own way....

despite me telling them that a person could walk off with her while she was getting away from me....

the only other times have been for day trips.... day trips were much better.

I don't know why your friends think you should take your nieces... maybe they think you are rich. Or don't understand that WDW can be expensive besides and belong the hotel room....

I don't - but heck I complainted so much about that kid - that my friends and coworkers know it will be a long time before I take my niece with anyone....

That's a good reason why I don't tell too many people that I'm going to WDW solo. People think I'm going solo only because I "have" to and want to have someone else go to "keep me company". I used to get offers to go with me, so I just stopped telling many people. Now, when I do mention it (not often, like I said) people usually give me a sad, "you're wierd" look, like "what's an adult going to do there?" I even had one person say sarcastically, "You're going to WDW-by yourself? What are you going to do there-ride Dumbo ALONE?" When I said "Yes, and I can't wait!", they moved away from me very quickly!

My nephew, my neice, and a couple of my cousins have been asking me for years if they could go to WDW with me. It's tough to explain to kids why you don't want to take them with you; I usually just tell them that kids are only supposed to go to WDW with their parents.

But if an adult ever suggests that I take one of the kids with me, I first ask, "Why?"

Sure we ride it alone! As if anyone would fit in that elephant with me, my legs are too long for that + my butt too big!

I typically get one of three responses:
1. You're going without your KIDS??? Do they know? How angry are they? (I'm staying at WDW while they're visiting their dad, so they don't care)
2. I'll come with you so you won't have to be alone! Often followed by: After all, you've already paid for the room so all I'd need to buy is the park ticket! :sad2:
3. How on earth can you go so many times? I'd be bored stiff! :confused3

I don't bring it up any more. However, whenever I mention accompanying the Dkids down to visit dad, some people invariably ask if I'm going to WDW "again" (said with a heavy sigh). They just don't get it...
