I leave with my son and D-I-L this Satuday morning for WDW. I'm taking off work Friday to take care of last minute things i.e. getting my hair cut, colored, highlighted, eyebrows waxed, nails filled, a pedicure, my dog groomed, and since my mom will be coming to my house to babysit my dog I'm making a last minute run to the grocery store to buy things I know she will eat.

My D-I-L called to tell me she's also taking off work Friday and was coming to spend the day with me. They're already packed, by the way. I told her fine and what my plans were. I even offered to get her a manicure, pedicure, and maybe a massage to keep her occupied, while I get 'beautified' as she called it. She laughed and said ''you've got to be kidding'. My D-I-L is a lovely 24 y/o with dark naturally curly hair that she just washes and lets dry naturally. She never wears makeup and has already said she not even going to carry makeup (will use mine if we decide to go somewhere nice), and always wears her nails natural (not even polished). That's fine. I was just offering to keep her occupied since she wants us to spend the day together. I'd be thrilled if someone offered to pay for a massage and to get my nails done. :confused3 She's not even interested and now has told me to make out a list and she'll run to the grocery store to get the things for my mom while I get 'beautified'. I always get my hair done, waxed, a manicure and a pedicure the day before I go on vacation. It makes me feel good and I want to look well groomed on the trip. Does anyone else do this?

I got a pedicure and my haircut right before my vacation in August. I do not think it is strange, I needed it anyway.

Some people do not go for that stuff, but I like to.

Funny you should ask... I was planning to work a half day before we leave. I'm going to clean the house in peace so we don't come home to a disaster, then take DD7 to get a manicure! I should add that I NEVER spring for manicures, so it will really be a treat.

As for your DIL, to each her own. Remember the Platinum Rule? Do unto others as they would like? (Not how YOU would like... It's tough to remember, but it's very insightful)

I sure would like someone to run to the store for me, lol. :goodvibes

I do things like that too. Especially getting my house clean. I HATE to come home from vacation to a dirty or messed up house. As for the DIL, give her a list of the things that you need done that you really dont want to do. LOL

i leave in november and already have an appointment booked for a perm. for me, and haircuts for the hubby and kids! i always try and book this stuff in time for the vacation, and when i was working always took the day off prior to the start of the vacation (hopefully the kids were in school that day so i could get stuff accomplished!).

i too do a huge housecleaning before i leave!

that is so funny I do get my hair colored and cut just go the Saturday prior to leaving. I hate that just cut look. :)

I am so excited about going I plan my flight for evening. I go to work and have the limo pick each of us either at home(husband with DS6),school (2 DD's 17)and me-- work. My co-workers love it when my DS comes running in to get me yelling "MOM its time to go to Disney" I work with mostly older women and they say it makes them laugh for days. It must they are still talking about the trip in May and we leave again at the end of this month. They asked why I am not having him come to get me. I now have to have my DH bring him to work to tell them bye.

I have an appointment the morning that we are leaving that afternoon. Right now I have my hair appt.(colored and cut and style) but I'm planning on making a pedicure appt for the same time as well (those toes and heels need to look good for Mickey ;) ) and also would like to have a manicure but haven't decided for sure on that one yet. 19 days and counting....

I deffinitely like to be polished all the time and make especially sure to do so before leaving on vacation. I do it all myslef as a SAHM, DH would freak if I ran off for too many luxuries just before we are about to run off and drop a bundle of $$ on a trip (most men just don't get it!!!). I don't cut my own hair of course!
I like to get my haircut the week before I leave so, I am used to any changes by the time we leave. I mix honey and sugar to exfolliate hands legs and feet thouroughly - try it, it is better than anything store bought I have ever tried. The night before leaving I give myself a peticure and manicure (I'm natural for fingers as I HATE chipped polish. I buff and them to a high shine and maybe cover them with clear polish). Make sure brows are tweezed and do a facial of some kind leaving my face polished and glowing. I also work out hard before vacations so, I look my best in the pictures that are going to be hanging around for years to come. I can't stand scruffy/tattered shoes so, I buy nice looking comfort shoes about 1 month before WDW and break them in only on days when I know I can keep them nice - no bad weather or running in grass or something.
So after reading about that whole month of pre-disney prep, I bet you don't feel like a freak anymore for taking one day to pamper! :cheer2:

I leave Friday morning and I have a haircut/highlights appt. for Thursday afternoon!!!! I can't go on vacation w/o a new haircut. LOL

:wave2: I don't think it sounds crazy at all-I wish I could do all those things before my trip! But I will be using all my $$ for the trip...

I am not usually a person who pampers myself. I take my dd's to get regular manicures(about once a month) but only because its pretty inexpensive and I hate doing their nails myself. However, just yesterday my aunt came in from out of town and needed a pedicure so while we were there she treated me to one also...well, now I am hooked! :earboy2: I really want a manicure now! I like how nice my feet look in my sandals.

Sounds from your description like your DIL is just not one of these people who care much about looks. I wouldn't sweat it! Just enjoy yourself and think about how nice you'll look in all your pics... :teeth:

I think I must be low maintenance like your DIL :rotfl: . The only thing I have done on that list ever was get my hair cut, and it has been almost two years! Im waiting until it is long enough to donate again. (Im almost there!)

I can totally understand doing those things if that is what makes you happy and comfortable for your vacation. But I can also understand having those things not be on the list of priorities for your DIL. Im sure she was just offering to get the things for your mom so that you could have some time to spend together later, not hurt your feelings.

I really do feel bad for those people who decide to not wear make-up, or do their hair, because they are *On Vacation*.

Hello........ photo albums are forever!

My husband is notorious for not wanting to shave on his days off. Once I showed him that he looks like a "scruffy bum" in almost every picture in our photo albums, he changed his tune. Who wants to be remembered as "scruffy"?

Everyone loves to look back at old vacation pictures from when you were a kid (love those 70's side-burns, Dad!). I plan to avoid embarrassment now!
