We are relocating to Oshawa area and since we will be so much closer to WDW I plan to go alot more.

I want to go in Nov to meet some friends who are going over Thanksgiving, but the flights are fairly high because of the holiday.

I was thinking we could drive for less. Has anyone drove ? How long did it take ? Mappoint says 18-19 hrs I think. Which I'm sure is really longer.

But I thought we could do it with 1 night stop.

Anyone able to tell me how it went for them driving ? How long did it really take ?

Lots of people drive. There are two basic routes: crossing at Buffalo and taking I90-I79-US19-I77-I26-I95-I4 or crossing at Detroit and taking I75. Both routes have their fans. We like the first route. From Orangeville the drive for us is 21 hours. We tend to leave around 5 AM and stop for the night just north of Charlotte, NC. The next day we arrive in Orlando late afternoon.

For air fare have you checked flying out of Buffalo? The flights are much cheaper that flying out of Pearson. Depending on how many people are traveling it may be cheaper than driving.

We have 5 of us flying. It's 1500.00 with the lowest flight being 129.00 each way.

21 hrs isn't bad. I have been looking out of Buffalo. I read it was cheaper so looked there. It's the time we are going. If we were going a week or two earlier or even a week later we could get alot cheaper flights.

Our experience is the driving time with stops can be anywhere from 21 to 25 hours.

We're in Mississauga.

We prefer the I90-I79-US19-I77-I26-I95-I4. No matter which route you take they go through mountains at some point watch the weather forecast before you leave, mountains with snow & freezing rain is no fun.

My family and I drive every summer using Interstate 75 and because we don't like to rush down it takes us two and a half days.

We are also fans of the I90-I79-US19-I77-I26-I95-I4 route. We also leave around 5am and stop just south of Charlotte NC or we will continue on to Columbia SC.

Are you going Canadian or US Thanksgiving (I assume US because Canadian is on 13th Oct)?
If it the US (and you were to go...lets say, 12th to 19th Nov....not sure how long you are going for), you can get Sunwing for $1600 for 5 all in.
The US Thanksgiving rates out of Buffalo are a bit high (although I didn't check SWA ...just Air Tran and Jetblue)

We drive down every year. Have always taken I75 route but this Dec. will be taking the I90-I79-US19-I77-I26-I95-I4 way. Hoping to make it to Hardeeville SC. Tom-Tom says DIS is 6 hours from there. Is this true. Any good, clean hotels in that area? Usually Takes around 23-24 hours of driving. There 5 of us and every year half way home say "NEXT YEAR WE ARE DRIVING FOR SURE" but cannot justifiy paying that much. Friends of ours got snowed in at Niarga airport for 2 days and had to cancel Dis trip, lots of crying kids. Any advice going this way appreciated, like good Cracker Barrels to eat at. Have to get your GRITS.:surfweb:

We are from Peterborough and are driving for the first time in about 5 years.

The i-75 route is better to take during the winter- a little safer but during the summer the other route is far more scenic.

We drive straight through and we are usually around the 22 -25 hour mark.

From London our drive time via I 75 is about 18-20 hours with stops for meals which we bring an electric cooler so buying food on the road is at a very minimum.

Question for HOCKEY MOM. We were driving to Millbrook the other day and just after Cavan on somebodies front lawn was a classic MICKEY MOUSE made out of rings. On the way home at nite it was lit up with LED lights. We stopped with the kids and checked it out. Is this you HOCKEY MOM?

We just returned last Sunday from a drive to WDW.

We live in Oakville and it takes approx. 24 hours on the road. We left home at 2:30am and made it to Savannah, GA at around 9pm. Stayed over night there and had breakfast and finished our drive. From Savannah it's only about 3.5 hours.

We took a cooler with breakfast and lunch plus snacks for day 1. Stopped in a hotel that included breakfast. So we only had to buy dinner.

For the return trip we had lunch and snacks in the cooler. We bought the rest of our meals. We left WDW about 1.5 hours earlier in the morning(4:30am) than we planned so we didn't know how far we would drive before stopping for the night. We ended up driving straight home because we stopped in two places and couldn't get a room. We arrived back in Oakville at 2:40am.

I just tallyed the final cost and it came to $623 round trip. That's 4 people driving a Chev Venture using the I79-I77-I95 route. If you add in the hotel on the return trip that we intended to stop at it would push the cost to over $700.

WOw that's great info. 700.00 is what I expected. Much better than the 1500.00. We are actually going the 26th - 29th. So that is the prime flying rates. If we were going a week earlier or later it would only cost about that much to fly. But we are meeting friends who will only be there on the 26th and 28th. So we have to go then lol
