Does anyone do Zumba????

I'm going to a Zumba class monday night. My friend has gotten certified to teach and I'm needing to add some exercise to my WW efforts! Does anyone know about Zumba/has anyone done it???

This sounds like such a fun thing! I can't wait to hear about it from you. Yay! that you have a friend doing it or rather leading it! I know you will enjoy!
 

I started going to a Zumba class a couple weeks ago- it's great! I love the Latin music! To be honest, I don't think my teacher is the best, but it is still a great workout and I really like it! I was so worried that I was going to be the oldest one there (I'm 45) but I am not by far! (Keep in mind, this is at a suburban park district! I should have know it would be mostly 40ish moms, etc) Anyway, I highly recommend it! :thumbsup2
 
I did it! I went to the Zumba class last night! I really liked it. However, I feel like I stumbled into an advanced aerobics class for some reason. I could do most of the steps, but after the first song I was worn out! And there was this one song where we jumped up and down and it really hurt my knee!

All in all, I think walking outside or walk away the pounds is a better exercise choice for me at this point. Maybe once I get used to the physical activity I will go back. This morning, my knee is really stiff and I keep flexing it to try and keep it from locking up. Sometimes when I get up from the couch I will twist this knee a certain way and it will hurt like this, but it quickly goes away and this hasn't.

I feel like a wimp for saying all this, but maybe I overdid it a little. I worked out for an hour last night when I'm not used to anything at all!

Other than that, it was really fun! I promise!! :goodvibes Just maybe it's better for someone who already works out a little!
 
I love Zumba! It's great fun. My Gold's Gym has it.

The only bummer when combined with WW is that since it is low impact, an hour class is only worth 2 points. So I usuaslly get there early to eliptacle for 20-30 minutes before class.

In fact, my knee didn't like the impact at all!! But it seems better now!

I do WW too, but I don't factor in activity points earned at all!!
To me it just defeats the purpose to exercise and gain a few extra points. So I just figure that any exercise I do is a bonus and will help my weight loss that week. I would rather eat 2 less points and not exercise!! :rotfl:
Seriously though, I know exercise is good for me and I should do much more than I do!
 
Good that your knee is better. Make it a slow start and build up to it. You will be fine. You are right that exercise is good! Good luck getting to do more than you do. That is a good goal!

So does that mean that there is no Zumba tonight then?
 
I did it again! I did it again! I went back tonight and I am totally proud of myself!!! I generally quit everything I start!! (I'm being honest here) It was a whole lot of fun and after jumping too much last week I just made sure that I took it easy on the parts that would be hard on my knees! It didn't seem as hard this week! I guess I just have to accept the fact that there are some moves I just need to modify (at least at this point,while I still weigh so much) I'm still going to be sore, but not limping like last week (hopefully)

Ever since Thanksgiving my eating has been out of control. I've got to get back on points and get the eating and exercise together!

When I got home from Zumba tonight, I thought of this thread and couldn't wait to post and tell anyone reading this that I went back!!! GO ME :woohoo:

I love posting here because I can "toot my own horn" and not feel bad!!!
And maybe someone might read it and feel like they can do it too!!

About the WW points- most weeks, I don't eat any of my flex points, so part of my motivation to work out is that I can have a snack (or a beer ;) )

I'm glad you found something that you are having fun with, makes it so much easier to stay motivated if you are having fun. Keep it up!
