I'm on day 11 of Atkins...it's going great...not alot of weight lost, but I've been exercising everyday and working on the total gym, so I know the weight might be slow to come off what with all this muscle I'm building  Ahem, anyway...on the weekend, we are quite often out and about (we live near WDW so there's lots to do!) and I found last weekend (my first weekend doing this) to be a little discouraging when trying to find safe "induction" food out! I ordered a chicken taco salad at Dixie Landings (yeah, POR) and I expected the chicken to be seasoned and the salad to be lettuce, tomato, cheese, green onions, etc...and I left out the tortilla....but they served me this thing and the chicken was in a thick sauce and there was corn and beans and EVERYTHING! So I started to cry as I pushed everything around...and I said, "I can't eat this"...so fiance got me a 1/2 chicken with no sides and I forced that down.
The problem began that night at a local restaurant where I went for buffalo wings (yum!) and the plan was to get a salad too, but they couldn't tell me what the carb/sugar situation was in the dressings...so that left that out. So I didn't get anything else. Then the Dixie thing...

Ok, to the point...I have also emailed the Outback for info on THEIR dressings and they told me that they make no nutrition claims of any of their food, but it is prepared fresh daily so to tell them about any dietary needs...All I want is dressing that isn't going to send me spiraling out of ketosis because it has too much sugar in it...I don't see the sense to working so hard to have that happen...so do any of you bring your own dressing with you when you go out? I feel funny about it, but if they won't tell me, then what can I do? I know now when we go for buffalo wings that bringing the Maries Blue Cheese with 0 carbs/sugar is the way to go...no worries and all!

What do you think...I'm new at this!
Sorry it was so long...I had to vent too about my bad experience last weekend!
And...can I have ONE michelob ultra, or will I burn in heck? LOL

I didn't even try to eat out for the first 4 weeks of Atkins...I was afraid. When ordering salads, though, I've always gone for the blue cheese, figuring that the carb count can't possibly be that high. At Outback, I get the steak griller w/o rice and ask them for extra veggies instead. No problem at all. Don't feel even slightly strange for whipping out your own dressing though. I don't feel weird when I take out my splenda.

Michelob Ultra...go for it, you won't burn. I love beer, and it took me a while to get used to the Ultra, but it isn't so bad. I limit myself to just a couple a week, but I have to admit that I'm still longing for my Pete's Strawberry Blonde or Corona. I love that stuff.

I am on WW not atkins but I carry FF dressing and Low fat mayo packs in my purse so I have them when needed while out!!! I got over feling funny about it and just do it. No one has EVER said anything!!!

When we go to disney...we look for meat only, first...order a nice cheeseburger and take off the bun. Wings, like you already said. The giant turkey legs from the lunching pad in MK. We like chicken, so a 1/2 of a roasted chicken would be great.

At the all stars food court...very easy to eat on atkins...with the carved meats they serve in the evening...and the green beans with the bacon in them...yummy. Just can't have the mashed potatoes and gravy right now.

we are still in induction also.

There are the side salads..we just ask for the dressing on the side or none at all. Never thought about bringing our own around with us.

All in all, we find it pretty easy to eat out on Atkins...we try to eat out at least once a week.

Yes, we do have a mich ultra or a captain morgans with diet coke when we are out. Your body will burn the alcohol before it starts burning the fat again...but we don't see much, if any delay in weight loss as long as we keep exercising.

Good luck!

Wow! Such quick responses...thank you!!!

I could NEVER eat a dry salad  and I really only like Blue Cheese for my wings (weird, maybe) I prefer ranch and I know that is usually the next best thing...right? I have found I really enjoy the Paul Newman parmesan caesarish (don't have it in front of me) dressing as well as the Italian, both have one sugar gram, or less than one (the caesar) They are oil based and don't need refridgeration, I don't think. I would feel less funny with a packet but whipping out a little rubbermaid container just seems weird, I probably would say something to the server though, just to let them know the "why" of it.

My fiance is anxious to to go 'Ohana, aside from the rice and the appetizers....it seems pretty darn Atkins friendly to us! Maybe I could get some butter or something to dip the shrimp in. I don't eat the sauces usually, but without rice (or the lomein, I usually have them make), it would seem kind of plain.
My only hope is that the yummy dressing they use on the salad is ok, cuz I'll eat THAT all day! I guess I'll have to ask though

Thanks for the words everyone and I'm glad to hear that I probably will be ok if I have a mich ultra, actually, I LOVE beer, but I tend to drink too much of it, so I may be better off with a bacardi and diet, but the place we get the wings has no liquor. I'd just like to know I can still have a drink now and again. This diet has taught me a LOT about moderation...LOL.

Oh, and my fiance and I enjoyed a turkey leg at MGM the other day and a large unsweetened iced tea that we kept watering down (it's amazing how little flavor you need when you only drink water all the time!). We got alot of miles out of that drink! :)

Have a great weekend and thanks again, guys!

An interesting FYI I read in the Food section of our newspaper recently.....
Most steakhouses dredge their steaks through some sort of sugar based seasoning mix. That way the sugar helps brown the outside of the meat without having to cook the heck out of the insides.
I thought that was interesting. And warned my mom who is now type II diabetic.
So you think you're getting all meat (protein) but may actually be getting sugar.

Wow, OhioMinnie...that's interesting! Good thing I got the lobster tails at outback last week!

I guess you really, really have to tell your server that you don't want any added sugar in your food and hope for the best  I felt kind of like a pest that first night out...grilling her about the salad dressing and then getting really frustrated when she told me it wasn't made there but was the "regular bottled kind" so I was like...OK...so why doesn't she look on the bottle? Ugh!

I know at Disney they will be accomodating and I won't feel weird telling them my new needs.

Thanks for the tip!
