through etrade, etc.? We're looking at this - would like some feedback, good bad or ugly!

I do through Fidelity and have for about 20 years. But I do have an MBA in finance from Stanford. I rarely buy stocks. Mutual funds have full time managers who pay attention every single day.

I have NEVER EVER EVER made a penny off advice offered by a broker - and have lost plenty.

Now my brother on the other hand does everything himself thru etrade. He does really stupid stuff like buy on the margin. I am not exagerrating when I say he has lost tens and tens of millions of dollars. He has about 100 times more money than I do so I can't speculate like he does.

Thanks - I'll look at Fidelity's online services as well. Not interested in individual stocks, either, unless we purchased Apple/Microsoft 25 years ago!

I know many advisors say not to be your own "investment manager", but who would watch out for your $$ more than yourself?

There was another thread on this a couple days ago.

I use TD Ameritrade. Ironic, as I learned to trade with the man who invented the software for eTrade. But, at TDAmeritrade, there aren't hidden fees, maintenance fees, non-use fees, (sometimes the market just isn't good to trade in, you are focused on other things,) the way there is with eTrade.

I posted a list of the different companies & talked about the importance of making sure your trading company can do an automated stop loss.
