We just cancelled our satellite on Sunday, so it hasn't been long but we've been watching TV over the internet occasionally for a few months now.

We purchased a cord online (couldn't find them in any stores) that connects our laptop to the TV. Basically it sets the TV up as a second monitor. It is very easy to do-- you really just plug it in and drag what you want to watch over onto the tv screen with your mouse.

We watch the instant play movies from Netflix this way and also watch some shows on hulu or directly from the station's website (disney, nbc, etc)

We have a Roku and use it to watch instant viewable movies on netflix. Netflix account is $15 a month and Roku was a one time price of $100. Plus we get the 2 discs at a time from Netflix. Of course we have our internet too but our basic cable (networks only) + mid tier cable internet is $50. So overall we pay $65 a month for cable, internet, and Netflix and have more than enough to watch.

We did this about a year and a half ago. It has worked out great for our family. The only thing we haven't been able to watch on the internet is some stupid cartoons and ESPN Sportscenter.

We just hooked our computer to the TV through the HDMI port. Very simple if you have these plugs.
