crazy to take the chance of a hurricane???
We are going to WDW Sept 20-27 and I am playing with the idea of a cruise too.:)

Go cruise! :) LOTS of people cruise in September, and even if there is a hurricane the ship will adjust its itinerary to avoid it. Hurricane season runs June through November so if that's the only time you can cruise then do it! :) September is also typically the least expensive month to cruise.

We have cruised twice in Sept. and enjoyed both but it was HOT both times. We would be there this Sept. but are going to Alaska in May. Should not feel much heat then.
Go enjoy.

I wouldn't suggest it if you are a planning freak. Some people tend to get VERY uptight when they are diverted due to weather. DH and I on the other hand would love to be diverted to a new place. We always cruise in Sept and have almost been diverted once. Others always seem to get diverted. Go figure.

Hi Disney-Kim,

does anyone cruise in Sept or is it just crazy to take the chance of a hurricane???

Yes, people cruise.

It's crazy ONLY if you experience a hurricane. If not, it's an acceptable risk...

We have gone the last 3 years over September 19th (my twin's birthday) and it has always been great! (That is why we keep booking again and again). Now we did have to board during a storm the first year, we we had another storm during our 7 day last year during a day at sea, but we have never missed a port and have had the time of our lives! We have another cruise booked this year and next year at the same time! And you get the best prices in September! Go for it! You will have a wonderful time!

Thanks everyone !!
I am ok with change/hurricanes. We have been in WDW the 2 times in history it has closed. Hurricane Floyd and Sept 11th.
So I can deal with adversity. ;)

With THAT "batting average," you should play your state's lottery...

We were on the "Westerm Cruise" for 9/28/02 and it turned out the be the "Mystery Cruise" because of the Hurricane <whatever her name was>.

We left Canaveral and headed straight to Castaway Cay instead of Key West. Then we went to San Juan (which I liked - I was surprised.) Then on to St. Thomas and then back to Castaway Cay.

I have to admit - I was extremely disappointed in not going on the Western Cruise, but now it just gives me another reason to book again.

thanks for your help everyone.

Our first cruise was September 2001, right after 9/11. :( Despite the timing and tragic circumstances, we had a wonderful time and great weather. Not to hot, not at all cold. It did get a little cool on the upper decks at night so bring a jacket or sweater.

I would definitely add a cruise to your trip. I used to be afraid that I would not want to book a cruise without days at WDW, now I don't want to book a trip to WDW without a cruise! :teeth:

We cruised in Sept. and Oct. and loved it. We will be going on the 9/13 Western this year. Join us! It will work out perfect for you. You will be back just in time for Disney World.

Well, when you think about it - there are DOZENS of cruise ships, and they sail full of passengers all throughout September. If the chance of a hurricane was worth worrying about, you'd see the cruise lines stop cruising in those areas at that time - but obviously the demand is there. I've cruised the Carib in Sept at least twice, and will again this Sept. I've also cruised in other "hurricane season" months - which, by the way runs for 6 months from June through November. In the unlikely event a hurricane will be affecting a port you're scheduled to visit, the ship will divert to a different area - they know this days in advance & can change accordingly.

Hey Disney Kim,
I also plan my trips to WDW or Cruise in Sept, right after school starts, seams to have less kids.
If you want some of the cruise daily planners, let me know it will give you a clue to what goes on.
