Does anyone crochet?

I went recently to clean out some things in my Mom's house, and came across an afghan she made me years ago. She made this special to fit my Queen size bed, so there was no pattern to follow. Well, the afghan was in her closet at the back, and it looks like a mouse tried to chew it up. There is a small hole where the threads have come into, about 1.5 by 1.5 inches. I would like to repair it, but I dont crochet, and have no idea how to fix the hole. This is the only thing I have left of my Moms crochet projects, as she gave everything else away. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated. I have asked around, and no one I know can crochet either.

Thanks for any help!:D

LOL, I can crochet a chain, but that's almost it. Good luck, I hope you find someone to help. :)

Susan...

Can you possibly take a couple of pictures of it? Maybe I can help...

I'd have to see the overall pattern, a closeup of the pattern, and a closeup of the damage

Same here, I would need to know what the pattern looks like and also the damage.

Thanks guys!

I dont have my digital camera with me right now, but I did a scan of the damage part that I will post asap. It seems to be a shell shape pattern, and one whole shell is missing. Maybe I should just use some thread and pull the ends together..... I dont know that ya'll could explain it good enough fo me to take crochet needle in hand! I'm such a dunce... my Mom never managed to teach me either!:D

Do you have any craft/hobby stores near you. Quite a few in my area do lessons, and one of the instructors may be able to help you.

There was actually a sign on the fabric store up the road from me saying that Knitting and Crocheting was the new Yoga.

Occasionally I try to learn to crochet. I'm not good at it, but I'm learning.

I love my blanket my h's grandma gave me and I want to do the same for my relatives later.

I know how precious those heirlooms are. I bet it can be repaired, especially since we DISers have pixiedust.

I'll wait here with the rest til we here from you.

O.K. Here it is.... Maybe this will give ya'll some idea of the problem.

Oh, those darn mice. :(

If it helps, I taught myself how to crochet a few years ago and have made many baby blankets, snowflake ornaments and scarves. A.C. Moore/Michael's type craft stores carry a line of pattern books called "Leisue Arts." They're VERY clear with diagrams and instructions.

The only thing I can't seem to tackle is a stuffed animal. I found the cutest "inch worm" for a baby and it's just boggling my mind, I can't do it.

But really, if you have the time, I bet you could pick it up really quickly and fix it yourself! You can't ruin it by trying, that's for sure. Anything you do can be immediately unravelled. :p

Good luck. :)

If you can't find anyone to fix it locally--I'd be happy to do it for you; but I'm in Wisconsin.

If you can't find some around you, pm me if you'd like me to fix it for you and we can make mailing arrangements. I've done stuff like this before--and it sure would be fun to use pixiedust and do it for a fellow DISer.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

As the others have said check with craft stores. They might know someone that could do it for you or find one. If you can't pm me. I have some possiblilitys here for you.
