I'm having a horrible time staying (getting?) motivated. I just purchased a digiwalker (on-line, so it'll come in the mail).

I know they are recommending 10,000 steps a day for a healthy life-style, more for weight loss. I really think this will be motivational for me to be more active.

Anyone else use a step-counter? Once I get started I'd love to find someone to compare notes with!

I have one and I've never used it. My mother gave it to me (she's thin and I think it makes her crazy that I'm not). I should find it and use it...thanks for reminding me :)

I'm trying to do the step counting thing, but the most I've managed was about 3000 steps. 10,000 steps is a bunch!;)

Hi

I am thinking of buying a counter. I was just reading an article in prevention magazine about how much counters help you stay motivated for walking.

Where did you buy yours online? Prevention.com has one for $25.

herc.

I bought mine at digiwalker.com . It was about the same price - there were various options. I upgrades a bit - Mine tells # of steps, distance, and came with a safety lanyard to keep it from falling off for $29.95.

Yeah, use that lanyard. Let me tell the sad, sad story of Pedi the pedometer. My wife and I have been relying on Pedi for over a year now to tell us how far we walk, so we can compute how many calories we burned. We used Pedi through thick and thin, from paved paths to the rugged Blue Hill Reservation hikes. Pedi came with us to WDW last week, and the three of us had a great time. We walked and walked and walked. Towards the end of our trip, Pedi was attached to my wife's fanny pack strap. We're at the Wilderness Lodge dock admiring the nice scenery. Suddenly, we hear CLICK, bonk, clunk, bloop. Robbie asks, "What's that?" And as I look over the edge of the dock, I see poor Pedi giving up his last few breaths. Bloop, bloop, bloop. It was so sad.

We went into the lodge and I walked up to guest services. I told them that we lost Pedi our pedometer off the dock and wanted to know where we could buy a new one. One of the CMs only heard part of what I said and exclaimed, "Who's Pedi???" We assured her that it was only our pedometer, and that yes, we really need to stop calling inanimate objects by name like that to strangers.

Anyway, moral of the story is to keep your pedometer securely attached when on boat docks.

Incidently, we went to the Sports Authority near the Florida Mall and picked up matching pedometers. Pedi III and Meter. (Actually we picked up Pedi II and Meter, but Pedi II was stillborn.)

bicker, on the website it actually recommended the strap since many people lose theirs into the toilet. I thought for sure that was where your story was heading!

LOL-at least I am not the only one who lost mine in the toilet :)

I use mine faithfully but the most I get up to is about 9500 (an that is when I workout!). I wish I could do the 10K steps a day but I just can't do it.

I got mine locally at Target or someplace like that.

I just bought a pedometer and have difficulty at time getting it to count my steps. I sent a message to their support center and they told me a different location to try, but that was it. Yesterday, after missing a lot of counted steps, I finally did get it to start counting. Since I am wearing a different type of slacks today I can't get it to count. Any suggestions?

I finally got the pedometer to start counting this morning, after I had already been up and around for 1.5hrs. I will reach my 10,000 steps goal today.

I got mine in the mail today. We'll be gone over the weekend, but I'll get it programmed and ready to go. I'm anxious to get started and see how hard that many steps is!

Well, I started. The first day I did 12,000, the second day I did 6,000 and today I'm at 12,500 and it's only 6:45 pm. We were at the beach. Can you tell which day it rained all day?

I think this will be doable, but I will have to work at it.

I have been wearing a pedometer for a long time. Some days are easier than others to reach 10,000 steps. The pedometer I would recommend is made by accusplit. Their website is www.accusplit.com.

Also, you might want to check out www.sportbrain.com. This site was up a couple of years ago at no charge. Now they are back but do charge a small monthly fee. I used to belong and plan on joining again. You wear the "sportbrain" which looks like a pedometer and at the end of the day you put it in a "sportport" which will transmit your steps to the website. Then you can see the number of steps you've taken. They do graphs and incentives. I'm not sure exactly how it will be now but I now that I really missed it when they went offline. I really had withdrawal symptoms. The only thing I don't like is that you can't see how many steps you've taken by looking at the "sportbrain". You have to download it via the "sportport" and then look at the website. The sportbrain also can differentiate between walking and running and if you have performed the activity for ten minutes or more.

I have a degree in fitness/wellness but like everyone, especially us 40-somethings, need to lose a few pounds. I hope sportbrain will motivate me as it did before.

Good luck to everyone!
