Does anyone call HH or VB "Home"?

We are still playing the "do we but it from Disney or resale?" game.

I know that the predominant feeling on this board is to Buy Where You Stay. However, we will likely NEVER book 11 months in advance...our lives and schedules are too unpredictable to be able to do that.

So, if that is the case, then maybe it doesn't matter where we buy?

HH and VB are so much cheaper per point than WDW resorts (no surprise) and maint. costs seem to be close to BCV and others.

We plan to use our points at the various DVC resorts...we might venture to HH or VB once or twice over the years, but primarily we will go to WDW.

What do you think? Should we seriously consider HH or VB?

HH was where we originally purchased (300 points in two 150 point contracts via DVC, not resale) but it was because we were interested in having HH as our home resort. It's within a day's drive of us and WDW is not. That being said, we've never had a problem making a DVC reservation at WDW even at less than 7 months. This year we are staying in a Boardwalk view 1 BR the week before Christmas and I made the reservation about 6 months prior to Dec----no waitlisting required. We are not choosey where we stay when at WDW and like you, rarely make reservations right at 11 months. Since buying at HH we have also bought at OKW but that was because we wanted access to a grand villa at times and knew that we would need the longer reservation window to secure a GV at OKW. We love HH and don't regret for a minute that it's our "main" home.

We call HH "Home"...we bought through Disney as there were no resales on the market at the time that weren't stripped. We chose HH because I wanted the 11 month window for summer and spring break. We visit WDW at least once a year, so truthfully we might be going there more often than going "home", but I'm still happy with my decision. We are considering an add on at WDW (yes, the bug eventually hits everyone), but mainly to get the 11 month window there also.

I think the majority of people would tell you to buy where you want to stay...but if you end up like a lot of people on this board, you will eventually own at more than one magical place.

We have three contracts at Vero (in addition to three at VWL). We specifically bought at Vero in order to have the 11 month window there.
There will be no cost savings in the long run, as annual fees at Vero are the highest of them all. :drinking:

We have points at VB. That was what they were selling when we purchased and before knowing about this board. I've not regretted it at all. I've never had trouble making reservations at the 7 month window. We do usually go in May/October. We did try to get VWL points through resale, because we love it there, but got ROFR'd. May try to get some through Disney. Our current points are enough for now (famous last words!!)

Good luck with your decision!

We've owned at HH since 2002. Haven't been there yet, but DH is a golfer and plans to get there eventually. BCV was offered at the time as well, but either their per-point cost was higher than HH or the Magical Beginnings credit was lower than HH's or perhaps non-existant. I'm a little fuzzy on the details now. HH just worked out better for us numbers-wise.

We haven't yet wanted (or even been able) to plan a WDW vacation more than 7 months out, and have had good luck getting studios at 7 months, 5 months, and even 1 month out. Not always our first choice, but that's fine with us. We're flexible as long as we're at WDW. SSR and OKW are easiest to get due to their larger size, and luckily, we love both of them. If you're equally flexible about where you stay, I'd go with the lower buy-in. You may have to call day-by-day at 7 months out for some of the smaller resorts, but if you know in your heart you won't be devastated to not get your first choice of resorts for that particular stay, you may as well save some money on your initial purchase.

Good luck with your decision!

We do to both resorts. I bought 150 at HH, then did a 50 point VB add-on when they were trying to "sell" out the resort. I then did another HH 50 point add-on this year. I go to WDW every year and I also go to HH every year.

The benefit of HH is the 11 month window for the summer. The resort is very small and if you want anything besides a 2 bedroom, it is tough at the 7 month window.

WDW on the other hand always has had something available for us at the 7 month window (I do not call day to day). I am not picky as to where we stay. I ask what have you got, they tell me and I pick from what is available.

Since WDW is always going to be growing and HH is maxed out, if you want to use HH during the busy time, I would buy there. The price is cheaper, the availability is less, it seems like a win-win situation to me.

It doesn't matter if you won't book at 11 months out, the question is whether you would book at more than 7 months out. If not, home resort makes no difference. Then the question is whether you should even buy DVC. For most people that can't book at least 7 months out, I'd say owning DVC is an unreasonable choice. But ultimately you must decide for yourself. I still wouldn't buy a resort that I never intend to use regardless, at least given the current price spread. IF I did, it would be HH due to the difference in dues and the fact that summer units there are easy to rent.
