Does anyone buy DVC to stay in studios only?

Well, I don't want to say this, BUT if you ever stay in a 1 bedroom, you will never want to stay in a studio again!!! We are OKW members and thought that perhaps we would use studios, (the studios at OKW are nicer than most hotel rooms), needless to say we LOVE the 1 and 2 bedrooms....especially for longer visits.....you really feel like your are "Home". PS We bought more points so that we could do this. However, I will say that our children (without mom and dad) always stay in a studio and just love it. Of course, that is all we offer up to them. We have stayed in a 1 bed room the 1st few years we bought DVC. Yes, they are very nice. However since then we have always been in a studio. Why, we would rather go a few times a year and stay in a smaller room then go once a year and stay in a 1 bedroom. Who knows, maybe not when the kids get older, maybe we still will feel that way. That is the beauty of DVC, such flexibility.

Anyway my point is you can go back to studio if it fits your needs just fine. We even have one more child then when we stayed in a one bedroom, and we make it work. I would trade an extra trip to WDW any day over a one bedroom, no mater how nice they are.

We bought into the DVC fairly recently. My husband and I stayed in studios, then when we took our kids and grandkids we were in a 2 bedroom. Although I loved the 2 bedroom, I was perfectly happy in a studio the next time we went when we were back to just the two of us. I can see how some people never want to be in something smaller than a 1 bedroom after experiencing the homelike atmosphere, but we'd rather conserve our points for more trips.

(you can also rent out your extra points, if you have extra, so going to WDW does not cause a budget problems)

We generally stay in studios to stretch our points for longer/more vacations.

I think plenty of DVCers have that philosophy. Less points per trip = more trips. And a studio is enough room for 2

We mix it up, but we wouldn't have bought DVC just to stay in studios, which are glorified hotel rooms. The beauty of DVC is in the 1-bedroom on ups. We did just return from a trip where we stayed in studios before and after our DCL cruise, and it was fun, but its not the way we typically use our DVC points these days.

When DH and I go on vacation with DS, we like to be able to put him to bed in the bedroom, cloes the door, then kick back on the sofa with some wine and talk, or watch some TV. My idea of a vacation is not tiptoeing around in the dark so DS can sleep.....sure, I can do it, but why the heck would I want to?

Also, we like to bring family and friends. It's one of the main reasons we bought DVC. We're done with the days of just showering and sleeping in the room. We lounge around and luxuriate in our rooms! And we smugly congratulate ourselves for buying DVC, so we can have awesome vacations and stay in rooms others only dream about while they are crammed into PopCentury.

I just love the studios! Having the kitchenette is so nice, and the laundry room has worked out great in all of the resorts that we have used it (BCV, BWV, VWL and VB).

The only time we will use the larger rooms will be if we invite family to join us OR if we have extra points to burn (that hasn't happened yet). The studios are very nice.

Honestly I just can't see wasting the extra points on a 1bdr for just the 2 of us. The studio is perfect. I know it's a common conception that it's just a glorified hotel room, but I think it's a little more than that. In the morning all I need is a toasted bagel and coffee and I'm ready to go. You can't do that in any regular hotel room.

We've even stayed with 5 in a studio and it was fine.

I can see the point of a studio for just a couple...makes sense to me, but the moment you add kids who are over 2-3 yrs old, it is time for a 1 bedroom..who wants the kids in the same bedroom as a couple? This is suppose to be a VACATION!

I don't get the 1 bedroom for the big kitchen i get it for the pull out couch! and a door between me and the dears

We've been trying for a while now. I'll remember this advice when the time comes. We've actually already discussed this. We figure that when it comes we're not going to WDW til they're around 2 or 3 anyway. I think Disney is wasted on infants and toddlers.

We've been taking DS there since he was five months old. There's no better place to take babies and toddlers, actually! Disney is one of the few places you can go and few totally comfortable having kids that small. And there's so much for them to see and experience! One of my favorite memories is my DS's reaction to It's a Small World. He was SO thrilled even at five months.

If I were going to take a child once in a lifetime, I'd wait till about 6 or so. But the beauty of owning DVC is we can take him many, many times. And we can stay in spacious units where he can go to bed on time, and we can continue with our evening without sitting in the bathroom at bedtime. We didn't miss a beat with our vacations after DS was born, largely because we bought DVC before he was born.

Yes, I agree! We do studios for one or two nights only. For weeklong vacations, it's a larger unit for the 3 of us!

I don't agree. But even if that is the way you feel, it isn't wasted on the parents. When you are a parent of a young child, you need a vacation too. I personally don't feel comfortable leaving babies with another person (they need their mommy and her equipment ) DVC makes a much more comfortable vacation. (and affordable.) WDW really does make it easy on parents with young children and babies. It really is a vacation the whole family (any age) can enjoy. Of course if you do that you have some banked points so that is good. We keep thinking we will skip a year, instead we go a few times a year.

I do see what you're saying. And like I said, we just got done with a studio trip. For me those trips are more utilitarian....we needed places to stay before and after the cruise, in this case. I'd also be happy spending time in a studio with pals.

When we're at OKW, we spend a lot of time in the room. It's like a destination in itself for us.

To Date (7 DVC stays) we have always stayed in a studio, and it's crowded...me, DH, BIL (on sofa bed) and DD (air mattress on floor) I would love to try a 1BR, but I know the minute I do it, we'll never want to stay in a studio again That being said, I would rather have two trips to WDW in a studio, than one trip in a 1BR, so we make due with the points we have. I right now, with 150 points, I'm still a little short for our visits. of course, when DD gets old enough to want to bring a friend, BIl will be out of luck!

Me too, that is what I miss the most. I can bring a DVD player with me. I can manage in a smaller bed. I don't mind sharing a room with the kids. A normal tub is fine. Having a washer and dryer in the room is nice. At least they do have them free, just not in the room.

We never planned on staying soley in studios. That's pretty much what the typical hotel room. We bought for all the trappings in the rrom - king sized bed, jacuzzi, full shower, washer/dryer, full kitchen. We really didn't plan on trading out much, either.

I have stayed at the BWV twice in a studio. My husband and I and our two small children (6 and 4) have been very comfortable. Not to mention, they always end up in our room every night anyway. I am not sure when they do it but sure enough every morning there they are!!! We are going make a final decision as to DVC resale or disney direct in the next few weeks. I know that the 150 points will be more than enough for us now but I do foresee adding points in the years ahead. We will not be comfortable when the kids are teens. They will not be sharing a room with us of course, but they will be big enough that they will want their privacy too (not to mention bringing a friend along on some trips). So I guess my point is stay were you are comfortable and what works for you. Realize that you may not always feel the same and you always have an option of add ons.
