Does anyone bring a toaster and/or coffeemaker or anything else in Disney resort to save money. Going to POR next month, just looking for some moneysaving ideas. Thanks!!!!

On several of our trips we've packed the toaster and the coffee maker to save money on breakfast. We stop and pick up bagels, cream cheese and some fruit and we're all set.

The last few trips, my boys have started to rebel against my ready-made breakfast. They seem to think they need to start every morning at the breakfast buffet to eat their weight in bacon.

I still squeeze in a few light breakfasts here and there, though.

I'm not sure about all resorts, but, the last time we went in Oct 2004, value resorts provided coffee makers. The food court also had toaster ovens, microwaves that we used. I always shop at Walmart once we get there. The things that are purchased each time are:
styrafoam cooler,english muffins,juice, milk,water,alc...
I also bring a small suitcase full of other food items with us:
cereal,crackers,p.b.j., and friut snacks. All extra item we have are for snacking only. We have never made any meals in our room. We also go off grounds most morning to eat at Sizzler's. They have a good breakfast buffet for around $4.99 all you can eat.

We use the toaster and microwave in the food courts.

We buy the refillable mugs for coffee and tea.

Toasters in a hotel room are a Fire Safety Issue. Also, it is against Disney Policy to bring one. Use the Food Court toaster, microwave etc. No need to bring your own.

The topic of in-room cooking is highly controversial on this board, so I've always stayed out of it. But the truth is, the idea of people cooking in the hotel room next to mine gives me nightmares. I don't think people who cook in their rooms have properly considered how dangerous it can be, not only to themselves and their own families, but to others in the hotel.

Kitchens are the primary source of house fires. Even in a kitchen that is fully equipped for cooking, fire is a danger, which is why you should always have a working fire extinguisher in your kitchen.

Fire codes do not permit cooking in hotel guest rooms that are not equipped with kitchens, because it's just plain unsafe. College dorms don't allow in-room cooking for the same reason. I personally knew some college students who accidentally burned down a beautiful historic university residence building because of a cooking fire.

By the way, if you don't think using a toaster is "cooking," try typing "toaster fire" into Google. You'll get 115,000 results, and it'll scare the pants off you, I promise. TONS of kitchen fires are started by toasters!

Everyone always thinks "It won't happen to me! I'll watch my toaster really carefully. I would never start a fire!" Well, I'm here to tell you, I've had toaster fires in my own kitchen twice! (Luckily I caught both of them quickly and used an extinguisher -- so no damage beyond a ruined toaster.) It does happen!

Even if there isn't a fire, in-room cooking can cause the fire alarm to go off, inconveniencing every guest in the hotel and tying up firefighting resources unnecessarily, because firefighters have to come out and reset the alarm.

I really wish folks would skip the in-room cooking. Please use the toaster and microwave facilities in the food court, or eat something cold in your room!

I don't know about the others values but this Jan ( thinking you meant 2003 since oct of 2004 isn't here yet:) ) Pop did not have coffee makers in room. however we bought the mugs and it was a simple matter to refill every morning. also the food court had ample toasters, micros to use and on the beverage island so you wouldn't have to ask a cm or someone to toast your bagel for you.

Yes, we have discussed this money saving issue before. One good post suggested using the iron to make toast or grilled cheese sandwiches. Maybe you could set bread on the light bulb. As previously posted, is against Disney policy, or any hotel's, to use these things. It is a fire hazard and can smell. (I thought about bringing down my clothes washer to save 75 cents on laundry. Anyone else try this?)

actually you'd be saving 1.25 so it is well worth the fuss! More mickey bars that way! it fit great in the overhead compartment on the plane, it only hung out about 2 1/2 ft into the aisle so people could still pass. the only down side being the guy in the seat in front of me was nervous it would fall on him and complained the entire flight (CRABBy. would hate to go on vacation with him!) I put the drain hose in the pool, ran an extension cord from my room( over the balcony since we were on the 4th floor) and was set to go.

Didn't know I would stir up so much controversy. When we went to Disney in 2001 I remember reading on the boards that people were bringing microwaves............now that's just crazy! Thanks for all your input!

Pop and all stars don't have coffee makers. they have plastic cups and an ice bucket.

spring for a refillable mug and use the toaster in the food court.

Lots of people take along coffee pots, toasters, and waffle irons on vacations and such. I don't recommend it either, but the practice has grown over the years. Coffee pots catch fire too. The ones with the timers/clocks are bigger problems then toasters.

Donuts, muffins, pop-tarts, cereal, make quick easy breakfasts and dont need to be toasted on a super hot day anyway.

I want to know where the good, affordable buffets are? 5$ sizzler sounds like its worth checking out. I will probably run out for a quick trip to McD's once - waffle hut (unheard of up here) and.. I understand there is an origional pancake house in orlando (not to be confused with IHOP) and they have the BEST pancakes - Real international style. The Apple pancake(feeds more then one) or the swedish pancake(fallen soufle with real lemon, butter and powdered sugar) is a treat.

Besides - you may have your luggage held up in the airport while they xray all your stuff 1000 times trying to figure out if that mickey shaped waffle iron really is a weapon of somekind.

That was only after you Hot tub was shipped Fed Ex Ground of course;)

On topic...I have used the toaster in the food court no problem:p
And no in room coffee maker in POR:(

to JAN, i am sitting here DYING laughing over your post. the all stars do have toasters, micro. etc. i could NOT even imagine bringing stuff like that with us. I have brought a few snacks, wheat thins, granola bars, etc. only because we come down by AMTRAK TRAIN. the thing that bothers me really is that while we are trying to SLEEP someone could BURN DOWN THE BLDG just to toast a sandwich while on vacation in DISNEY WORLD...........hello...............and it is a FIRE LAW , it is not allowed.
