Does anybody NOT like massages???

Me
The idea of someone massaging me gives me the heebie-jeebies:rotfl:

My hairdresser does a mini neck massage when she washes my hair and that "icks me out" also:lmao:

Count me in. The idea of a stranger touches me totally gives me the willies. Even manicures & pedicures. I can't enjoy them, so there's no way I would ever spend my money on a massage. The only reason I get manis & pedis is so that my nails look nice for a special event. Otherwise forget it.

And as a PP mentioned, I don't like hugs either. I'm in an industry where everyone hugs and kisses each other on the cheek. Ugh. I hate it and I never initiate.

Everything you said! When I get my nails done they are constantly smacking my hands telling me to relax them but I can not relax when a stranger is touching me.

Add me to the list! I have a very sensitive back...heck even my Chiropracter has to be careful... Nope, no massages for me!

Massage therapist here ;)

I can usually tell when someone is uncomfortable and I do everything I can to respect that. I have asked a couple of people (over a 20 yr period) if they wanted to stop. There are just some people that just don't like to be touched. My son has Asperger's. I massage him a lot but I can't see him ever getting a massage by a stranger.

As a PSA If your therapist is going too deep and you don't like it tell them!! If they continue to go too deep ask them to stop! End the treatment. I check in often to make sure the pressure is what they want, not what I think they need. But I sometimes still here later that it was too deep and they thought it had to hurt to be beneficial. Like I have had to teach my son, advocate for yourself. I love a deep massage, but there are times and areas that I don't want it to be deep, so I speak up. Most massage therapists want to give a massage that the client wants, it just can be difficult to know what that is the first time without communicating.

I am glad you posted, to get another point of view. I am the op of this. The massage therapist I had was very nice, very kind, very gentle.I just couldnt get over the fact I let a stranger touch me.

I hate being touched by strangers, but I will get a massage once in a while for back and neck pain. The right kind of massage can keep me pain free for a month or more! So I suck up the discomfort and just do it because the end result is soooo worth it. I've been needing a massage for over a month now but I keep putting it off because of my aversion to touching.

I posted last week I had my first one, and did NOT like it. The majority of people who I know who get them love it. I only come across a few people in real life who do not.

So do any of you NOT like a professional masage? The place I went to was a chain called "Massage Envy".. Everybody was very nice in there, and very helpful. The place was extremely clean and comfortable, I had no problems with the staff or anything. I am just not comfortable having a stranger touch me:confused3 I could not relax, and feel like I wasted my money. Luckily though, I got the new client rate of $39.. I could not imagine going back.

Now a few years ago, I was at one of those heath and wellness things at a convention center and I had a 10 minute chair massage. Now, that I didnt mind because of being fully clothed and it didnt make me feel too odd/weird.

So tell me, anybody else not like them???

Add me to the list of people not liking them. If someone is going to be rubbin' on me like that, I want dinner and drinks first.

MY DH hates them. I treated him to a professional massage as a gift and he said it was too ticklish. Everything tickled.

The masseuse also told him that he's the least-tense and least-knotted person she ever massaged. So I guess he doesn't need them anyway!

I love them!

I would never let anyone touch me.

Between my neck dissection for cancer and my 4 back operations I already have enough pain. I think that would just bring on more.

Only my dh gives me a back rub but he knows what would be right or not. Even he adds more pain sometimes.

I know some people find them very relaxing. I am not one of them.

I don't like massages but not because of the stranger touching me part. I actually get very light headed and nauseous. I seriously could hardly drive home from an hour long one that my mom had given me as a gift.

She and my sister said there is no way I could get that sick so I finally let them talk me into going for another one a couple of years later. Got sick again. I must be a weird one!!!:rotfl:

I LOVE massages. I am not overly comfortable with my body normally, but I think of a massage therapist like a doctor: they touch bodies all of the time. I have given birth to two chilren. I've been touched by a doctor. A lot. And in a lot of places!:rotfl2: A massage is nothing!

total massage junkie here! Had one yesterday (i go in for a 2 hr once a month) and would have them weekly if i could afford it. I get deep tissue and myofascial release.

I just don't think I could let a stranger touch me. I can hardly stand it when I get a manicure and they massage my arms up to the elbow. *shiver*

I posted earlier that I hated my massage. But with an old back injury, there is nothing more relaxing than getting worked over by a chiropracter!
Finishing up with a loud POP!

I went to Massage Envy too. I don't have a problem with other people touching me but I just didn't enjoy the experience. I felt really sore after (I've been multiple times, to see different massagers) and it just wasn't my thing.

So tell me , what exactly is the myofascial release??

I had a massage at the recommendation of my now ex-boyfriend a few years back and absolutely hated it. I'll stick to facials, pedicures, and scrubs thank you very much. :)

I'm joining the Do not like group. It just does not feel good to me to get massaged. It skeeves me out. I can however, get pedicures and it does not bother me when they massage my feet. :confused3

It's not that I don't like massages, it's that I have been totally spoiled by my DH. He gives amazing massages( I end up so relaxed that I really am incapable of moving after one.) I've gone to a few professionals and I spend the whole time thinking that it's nice, but not DH. I end up walking out with the same knots and tensions that I walked in with.

I had one once and it hurt like crazy! I would love to try somewhere else that was a bit gentler, but I would have to find somewhere that let you keep your dang clothes on! Even a sheet wrapped around you would be ok. I just do not want someone touching me nekkid! It was creepy!
