Does anybody here have a personal shredder?

I am thinking of getting one but don't know if one brand is better than another. Do they last very long and what price range do they run?

TC :cool1:

I've had mine for about a year and a half - and it gets sooo abused. Way too much junk mail at this house. I paid $20 for it at Target. It was on sale, think normally ran about $30. I love it. It's just some off brand - NoviTech??

I wouldn't be without one.

I have a Fellowes shredder here at home, and I think it cost me around $60. It works well. Probably can do 8-10 sheets at a time, although I usually only run 2 or 3 through at a time. It can also shred credit cards and will accept stapled papers.

I've owned mine about 2 years now with no problems. A word of warning, though, DO NOT try and exceed the recommended sheets of paper it says it can handle at one time. That's when my friends have trouble with theirs.

True. Mine shreds 5 at a time. I've tried 6 - stopped half way through. I just pulled them out, and it started again - so no problems. Mine will do credit cards and stapled papers too.

I think I have the same type as kbkids... I bought mine at Target about a year ago. The only problem I have with mine is if I'm shredding A LOT of papers, it will shut down and cool off for a few minutes.

I try to shred often now!!

I can't stand lots of paper around on the deck, so I do shred often - even stuff that doesn't need shredding. But that's simply because I'm too lazy to get up and just throw it in the trashcan. The shredder is right by the desk, so I just put all paper stuff in there.

I have used a Fellows for several years, I did recently get a new one rated to 11 sheets so I can shred those pre-approved offers without even opening them :) I got it at Walmart for about $45.

Ours is a necessity with all the junk mail which comes in - feel safer shredding all credit card offers, etc...rather than having them out in the trash for public perusal.

OOh - now that would be nice. Tried that once without opening them - didn't work so good!

We also have a Fellowes shredder. Don't remember the cost though, we purchased it about 4 or 5 years ago.

We are looking at new ones, ones that "crosscut" shred, instead of just doing "strips"

My dad became a "Shredder Expert" recently when he decided that he would buy one for my mom for Christmas  . Anyway, he talked my uncle into buying one for my aunt and I was so fortunate to be there during that discussion, so I learned a lot! :teeth:

He recommends Fellowes and he said that the straight cut is better because the cross-cut tends to wear out faster. He purchased a 12 page at a time that does credit cards and cds. He also purchased the oil for the blades which apparently is very important. Hope this helps!

By the way, my mom was not exactly thrilled with the shredder, she wanted a saphire necklace and has yet to use it. But I am sure she will!

We have a Fellowes at work. It can do 15 sheets at a time and if I am not mistaken it can shred credit cards too. It gets used throughout the whole day and has yet to cause problems.

Heah Cindy, guess you didnt see what I wrote on the thread about the christmas presents that made you go hmm, well dh bought me a shredder for christmas. Didnt ask for it and when I opened the box I literally cried. I thought it was totally insensitive and an insult. I think he is trying to tell me to get rid of some of this paper around here, I guess he never heard of an irs audit etc. Well its still in the box and he has said he probably will not return it to the store. I will let you know if I ever use it, the ds will probably use it just for the fun of it and to see me cringe etc.

I forget what brand ours is - we got it at BJ's.

Ours also has slots to shred CD's and credit cards, which is nice.

We've got a cross-cut shredder that also does CDs and CCs- the blades haven't worn out yet!

We've had it for about 4 years. It holds a lot of shred too, so we dump it about once a month or so.

We got it at Costco.

Sounds like the same kind we have - we've had no problems and are very happy with it.

Here is a pic of my personal shredder......

Can't leave paper of any sort laying around....either shredded to pieces or it somehow just "disappears" :rotfl: :rotfl:

Another Fellowes owner here. My biggest beef is not the machine but the shredded paper. The recycling folks here actually demand that we put in in another bag before puting it the big bin, not loose. At least some places still have paper bags I can get.

OK, does anyone else LOVE to shred as much as I do? I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I see those little strips of paper start to build up in the bottom of the shredder. I'm sure I'm the biggest office supplies dork in the world, though - I was equally excited the day I bought my first electric pencil sharpener!!!!

I use a Fellowes, too...

Hey TC! I have a TechSolutions. We've had it for quite a few years. I love it and never any problems.
