Does anybody have the "plug-in" igloo cooler

We purchased the igloo cooler that plugs into the cigarette lighter for our car and it works pretty well. I thought about buying the ac adaptor & using it in the room on our next trip to WDW. Has anyone used this cooler as an actual refrigerator? We've used it to get food to & from the beach (about 4 hours) but never longer than that. If used for long periods of time, could it burn the motor up or be a fire hazard? I would like to have a refrigerator when we go back, but don't won't to pay $10 night. We usually take a small cooler & fill up with ice, but could use more room. Would it be unacceptable to take a small dorm type refrig. down with us. I'm not trying to start a "small appliance" debate, just asking:) Also, when I checked the igloo website, the adaptors were about $55, I don't know if it's worth it - that seems expensive.

Came with both the plug for the car and the adapter to run it while being plugged in. We bought it last year and used on our trip to Gatlinburg. It stayed plugged in for about 4 days and had no problem with it burning up. Did a nice job. We needed it to keep our son formula cold during our stay and it worked fine.

I know what your concern is...I have it, too. BUT we used it on the way down (2 days) 7 days there and 2 days back, pretty much non-stop. The year before, it was 2 weeks. Loved it!

We have had our plug-in refrig for 4 years. We use it at least twice a year, 12 hours up, 12 hours back and 2-3 nights at a hotel room (the rest of the time is at DVC so we don't need it there). We have never had any problem with it. And yes, $55 seems kind of pricey for the adaptor.

We have one and have used it in a similar manner to the others that have posted with no problems. My brother has one that he has used as a refrigerator in his office for the past 10 months with no problem! We paid the $55 dollars, and my DH was not pleased, but over the past 6 years we have more than gotten our money out of it!

We bought ours last year and love it. I purchased the adapter but did not pay $55 for the adapter. I think I paid either $25 or $30 for it.

Some of the best $$ I ever spent. Ours came with the cooler. We have used it 18 hours down & Back + 17 days in-between (1 trip). It has lasted 3 years & 4 trips to wdw. Plus numerous other vacations

That adapter is not that much!!! I bought an adapter last year it is a cigarette adapter (12 volt power cord) on one end and the house plug thing on the other end. It was under $10 on ebay and that included shipping.

We have the coleman version that came with both ac/dc. We leave it plugged in for several weeks at a time during the summer. It has been to Disney twice and on many other camping trips. We also keep beverages in it during the summer at home. No problems, though it is getting a little loud. Best money ever spent and will replace when this one goes.

We have the Coleman version. It is ready for its 4th trip to WDW. We typically stay 10-12 days and run that thing the whole time. We haven't had any problems running it continuously. We use it to keep drinks cold and maybe some fruit and cheese. I do not trust it for meat. I don't know if it will keep it a safe temperature since it is a cooler, not a fridge.

Our model came with a power adapter. It was from Wal-Mart and $10 cheaper than the same one at a local camping store--without adapter. A couple of years ago we found additional adapters at Target on clearance. Price shop for your adapter.

We think this is one of our best trip investments ever. We neither eat huge breakfasts, but want something when our feet hit the floor. A nice bowl a cereal is great!

I bought the Coleman version of this cooler a few months ago at Walmart when the price dropped to $63, and it included the adapter. We used it on last month's trip to Disney: 9.5 hours down, 4 days in the room, and 9.5 hours back with no trouble. It has also been plugged up in my utility room since we bought it because my youngest likes to keep her bottled waters and Gatorade in it for soccer and cheerleading practice/games. So far, I have to admit it works great, but I agree with my3princes---it is a little loud in my utility room, but did not seem that loud in the hotel room. And it seemed much lighter than the small dorm fridge I lugged up several flights of steps my first day of college(a hundred years ago, of course). I decided I needed this cooler after so many people on the board said they liked it...but I had to wait until the price dropped to justify it since we are DVC members and really don't need one for the room often.

We've had the koolatron model for about 10 years -- we've upgraded the size over the course of those years and have owned 3 different ones. None have burned out -- we just outgrew them as the first held about 6 cans of pop. The best investment we've ever made. Use it for the drive down (2.5 days) during our stays (7 days) and then the drive home (2 days). Have the adaptor and use it in the car and in the room. Would not leave home without one as it saves us a bundle on food esp. during the drive.

We've had ours for several years and have taken it many places. We use it in the car and in the hotel with the adapter. We've even used it a few times at home when we had a party to keep drinks cold. Rather than putting an ice chest out on the patio, I plug in the cooler and use that.

We've had no trouble. Actually, that's not entirely true. We have had some problem with the fan being kind of noisy which is sometimes disturbing at a hotel. We just started putting the cooler in the bathroom and then it doesn't bother us trying to sleep.

::yes:: Oh yes, not sure if it is Igloo but same idea. We bought as our son has a medical problem and we travel from Maine to Springfiled, MA several times a year. We do indeed use it for our fridge. We enjoy camping and take it along BUT! do not leave it plugged into your vehicle over night. Very likely your battery will be dead......trust me :teeth:

Oh, there is 4 of us, and it works fine. We easily fit a half gallon if milk in it plus sandwich stuff. ::yes:: We also stick in apples and other fruit. This way when you need something cool it is handy.

Hope this helps you

We have two of these , use them a lot, no problems. nana2tots

We also have an Igloo cooler that we love!! Sometimes we drive from NH to Florida and we just plug this in the car and we are good to go!! It holds alot too, so it is really handy to pull over at a Rest Area and have sandwiches or whatever instead of fast food. I love it and we take it everywhere!

we have one used it all the way down to florida , when we checked in and our room wasnt ready we told bell service it needed to be plugged in and they had no problem, used it the entire stay and back in the van for the trip home, they are great ! since we bought disney vacation club all rooms come with a fridg now, no need for the cooler unless we travel to mackinac island, and they didnt even have a problem plugging it in for us until the room was ready, and actually it worked out because they plugged in a closet right were the pool was and all we had to do was swim and get something out of the cooler to drink::yes::
