Does Animal Kingdom Lodge put the animals inside during super cold days?

I’ll be there this weekend where the high is in the low 50s and it’s supposed to get down into the 30s at night. Do the animals on the safari area go inside during these cold snaps or are they still outside where you can see them? I’m specifically visiting the hotel to see the animals so if they won’t be out I’ll change my plans to somewhere else.

50s/30s this past week and the animals were out during the day. We were at Sana’a this morning at opening (7:30 am) and the giraffes and cattle were out...temps were in 50’s...overnight low 52 degrees

Its entirely up to the animals as to where they want to be. the only time they are brought inside intentionally is when the staff needs to give them a checkup.

just so you realize that you can visit while warm and still not see any animals
They roam freely and it’s not unusual to see no animal anywhere for periods of time
The length of a meal is short enough periods of time to see no animals
If your sole reason for going is for animals you stand to be disappointed

I’ve stayed there before I know they move around although I’ve never been when there were no animals. I have Boma booked so we’d walk around before and after to see the animals

The Columbus zoo keeps giraffes inside of it is below 50 degrees. Just an example of what low temp they prob tolerate best I would guess.

They take them all in for tropical storms and hurricanes. To keep them safe. I do recall some specific animals being put inside for the cold a couple of times.

We were at WDW 12 years ago when Orlando broke record lows 3 times in a week. There was even snow on the ground at MCO!

Water parks and swimming pools were closed. Many AK animals were housed, we learned.

It was dreadfully cold--low-40s highs with windchills in the 20s, at or near freezing every night of our week but one. There were covers on flowerbeds and some small trees and bushes.

So, yes, if it is consistently cold for several days, measures to protect the animals are taken.

Jambo is better that Kidani. We’ve been to Sanaa and not seen a single animal more than once. But never not seen one at Jambo

Hmm it’s supposed to be super cold, so that could definitely happen. I haven’t been to the hotel when it’s been cold out before. I’m not sure what to switch my breakfast to, I wanted a hotel I could spend some time at exploring and felt this hotel had a lot more to do

At Animal Kingdom Lodge on a good day, the animals are called into the barn each morning. They are called in by groups. So depending on the time and where you are looking, you might not see any animals.

Thanks, it’s a 10am breakfast so would be later in the morning. The responses I’m seeing are all over the place with some seeing them and some not so I guess it’ll be a 50/50 if they’ll be out there.

I’m just not sure what to change to instead I feel like this hotel had the most unique stuff to do after we’d eat breakfast.

They do have a point at night (late night) where they are called inside.

It really is the hotel with the most activities. The temps are the one * to your date. It's an extra knock against seeing animals, which can be hit and miss on perfect days. Which I'm sure you've experienced doing a safari (for instance). I'm not sure what second choice would be.
Maybe breakfast over around the Epcot resort area then walking to play mini golf? May not be all that fun in the cold though
One of the MK resorts then a ride on the monorail?

Ya I’m not sure what to do. It looks like it’ll be around 36 Saturday night and we are going Sunday morning so it’ll probably be like 45ish or maybe a little warmer by 10am. This cold is definitely throwing me for a loop lol.

Hope your trip worked out well.

January or December 2010?

I was there in December, but I know that the January prior involved sleet one morning of the marathon weekend. They called that particular race "Disney on Ice."

50 isn't that cold for many of the animals.

When you look at some of the ranges in Kenya, overnight average temperatures often fall to the 50s much of the year. And that's an average, which means sometimes it's colder.
