Does an upcoming Disney hotel conventions list exist?

Does anyone know where I may find a list of upcoming Disney Hotel Conventions, specifically taking place at the Yacht Club?

DH (aka Grumpy) and I are booked at YC for 3 nights this coming November for a couples getaway/early birthday present to me. I want to avoid any mass conventions taking place if possible.

We stayed in Coronado Springs back in the summer of '08 (Daughter's Sweet 16th). Unfortunately, there was very large and rambunctious convention taking place in the Orlando area and several, well perhaps not several, I'm thinking MOST members were staying on property all over WDW. Regrettably, our hotel of choice was where convention events were taking place. Sadly, the convention members invaded the pool and claimed it as their own. Breakfast at our beloved Pepper Market became out of the question. We had to drive off property to the Waffle House (the horror!). Needless to say, we entirely gave up on even attempting using Disney Bus Transportation! In the evenings, the convention members would bring their room chairs and a radio out onto the balcony and have a jamboree (I’m not exaggerating!) My husband repeatedly called security, who quickly came out (several times) and advised the wild bunch they couldn't take furniture out of the room nor play loud music in the hallway. But it was just no use. As soon as hotel security would leave, it was back to the jubilee! We didn’t sleep a wink, and husband was looking out of the door peep hole the entire night!

Oh it was just awful. If anyone was in the Orlando area, during the beginning of August ’08… they know exactly what I’m talking about. It was a very popular convention, announced on local news and all! To our detriment, we are not locals.

Of course, my family and I laugh about it now; and we make people pee in the pants when telling the story, however, ever since then, when making any resort reservation with my husband, he demands I find out if and what conventions are taking place coinciding with our trip. Disney Reservation Agents will tell you if there is a convention going on, but they will not divulge specifics. I need specifics!!!

I'm lucky husband still wants to go to Disney. It took him a year to get over the '08 incident. I thought for sure he would ban Disney for life!

Sorry for my rambling and hope someone can help!

There is no official list that I know of. I have seen a list for upcoming conventions at CSR, but even that list is put together by someone doing generic searches on the web for conventions being held at WDW.

Subbing. We're at YC in Nov and availability has been crazy. We booked a BB in Oct and my ILs tried to book one the week after us and YC had no availability.

We are going first week of Nov, originally booked at Poly but switched to YC because we're doing only Epcot F&WF this time. Now wondering if I should have stayed at the Poly. :( Poly is not a convention hotel.

A little off topic, bu we stayed at Coronado several years ago, we didn't have a problem
with the guests, we had a problem getting a parking space since there were hundreds of
tow trucks taking up space, during a tow truck drivers/rig convention. If there is a sports convention you can look up the calendar on disney's wide world of sports website.

The first year we stayed at YC there was a convention, didn't bother us at all. I'm actually HOPING that's the reason everything's so booked, I'd rather the hotel be busy over the parks.

I've done extensive research online and didn't come up with anything except information on a convention that already took place in August.

I'm going to tell my husband I did my homework and no wild conventions are booked during our stay! I'll request a woods/pond view to insure "out of sight/out of mind" and make sure he is slightly tipsy throughout our entire stay.

When I go to Disney with the kids, everything is right in the world, when I go with the husband, something disastrous always happens... but I'm not giving up! It's Disney or bust!!!

I don't think you'll have a problem. We've stayed at the Yacht Club several times when there were good sized conferences going on, it was fine.
I hope you have a wonderful stay! :beach:

Thanks Gwynne! :shamrock:

This is the only resort husband likes, this will be our 3rd time at Yacht Club!!! They say 3rd time is the charm! Last year we stayed at Wilderness Lodge and he hated it!

We hated WL too!!! But we recently got back from our stay at Yacht Club and LOVED it. There was definitely a convention going on, as I saw people with the tags around their necks, but other than seeing a few of them walking around I would have never known! It was one of the most calm and peaceful Disney lobbies I've ever seen!

Once you stay at a Boardwalk resort, it's hard to stay anywhere else. The location just can't be beat! Having the luxury of walking right into Epcot through the International Gateway is priceless.

I TOTALLY AGREE! We were just saying how we even like it better than the MK resorts. There's something so DIFFERENT about them! The walking to Epcot is amazing... and the boat to Hollywood isn't too bad either!

Is the hotel soldout? I don't think it matters if it's convention people or families. Actually, convention people would be better because they tend not to share rooms, rather than families who can have 4 or 5 people.

Agree, plus the buses tend to be much less crowded during the day because the convention people are tied up in meetings.

One time my mom was at a doctor appt and the doctor mentioned he went to a convention at The Swan. So I asked him if he went to any parks. He said, no, he never left the hotel.

Conventions have pros and cons. Pros are the pool is less busy and the buses to the parks are generally less crowded. The cons for us were that they took up the whole lounge almost every night, the bus to DTD each night was packed full, and while we tried to enjoy breakfast outside each morning there were always business folks in suits working on laptops and taking conference calls. Not a big deal, but it reminded me too much of work back home and detracted from my vacation bubble!

But I do agree that I'd rather be in a sold out resort due to a convention than other families.

I wouldn't worry too much about the YC , more of a high end resort so I would think security would be on top of things than CS just my opinion
