does all star/pop ever upgrade for free?

We were thinking about staying at POP centry in their cheapest room. When we get there, if they are not full could they possibly upgrade us to a room closer to the pool? Or doesn't disney do things like that?
We will be there Aug. 20-29, 2008. Any info will be greatly appreciated!

We've stayed at POP 5 times now and haven't been upgraded. We have been upgraded, however, at AKL.

In the 9 times I've stayed at Pop, I was upgraded to a King room once (and I was solo). I never requested it, either. Love love LOVE that resort! Am heading back in 57 days!

we were upgraded to a preferred room last August. I simply asked if it was possible to get the closest room to the pool area. The CM told me that she could get us a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the main pool. I expected to pay extra for the room, but was never charged.

You could get a close room to the pool without having a preferred room. Just request it on your ressie.

Once at AS Sports we were upgraded to a preferred location for free.

It's happend to us 2 out of 5 times at values. Just the luck of the draw. It's never happened to us any place else though.
