Does AKL Only Have Busses For Transportation?

Hi Gang

It's my understanding that a "deluxe" resort has to have more than 1 type of transportation. Is it true that the AKL only has busses?

Damn that Disney for not putting monorail access to ALL resorts! :D

Just wondering

The AKL only has buses, unless you count your feet as transportation ;)

Very funny Karen!!!
AndyMcV....I think that's one of the reasons the you pay less for AKL than the other deluxes...that lack of other transportation. WL is the same way, except they do have a boat that goes to MK. Yep, sure would be nice to have the monorail everywhere but I shudder to think what the resort rates would jump to!! AKL's bus service is really quite good.

We just got back from a week's stay at AKL, and yes... they only have bus transportation. I don't think it has anything to do with the cost or how much of a deluxe the hotel is. I think it's simply because it's so far from any other type of transportation. But we were not disappointed. The bus system is a breeze to navigate, and all of the destinations are clearly marked. We traveled to all four parks and to DTD (and once we even went and toured the other hotels) and the entire time we used the bus sytem. We never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus, and 3/4 of the time (during the week - the weekends were much busier) we had the whole bus to ourselves. Even the wait was pleasant... they have benches for you to sit on, and it's in a cool, shaded area.

Don't let the transportation keep you from staying at the AKL. It's beautiful there, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Did you see any families bringing large strollers onboard? We have a double jogging style that does fold but it seems like it would be clumbersome to bring on the bus. But I like the idea of hopping on the bus from AKL to AK on the early entry day. Will we have any problems? Thanks.

The busses are quite large, and we definitely saw several strollers there. Some weren't even folding them up. We also saw several wheelchairs for the elderly. I don't have any doubt that bringing your double stroller will be fine. In fact, it may be much easier on the bus than the boats. The monorail should be fine as well.

Be sure to post your trip report, or at least a little blurb about your vacation when you return. I'd love to read how it all went!

We were at AKL in September and had a large stroller. We wanted to bring the one that reclined, just in case our baby had to take a nap. (Although, I tried to make it back to the hotel with her every day for her nap.) Personally, we got a little tired of loading it since it was so bulky. On our trip next month, we plan to take a much smaller stroller, especially since she's older and shouldn't have to sleep in her stroller.

I still plan to go back to the hotel each afternoon - our days go much better when she gets a good nap.

When dh and I visited AKL in the fall, we had no trouble catching a bus to the other parks. We seldom had to wait more than a few minutes. We did find ourselves waiting for 20-30 minutes to catch a bus back. However, we noticed that many of the other resorts had long lines waiting significant amounts of time for their buses. We, at least, never waited with a large group and our buses were never crowded.
