We have never flown Airtran, and I was wondering... do they pre-assign seats on their flights? Also, if you have flown with Airtran in the past, were you pleased with them? Thanks for your help!

We always fly Airtran, I really like them. There are assigned seats, you can log on to their website 24 hrs before your flight to pick them and print your boarding pass. I like that the seats are 2 and 3, it's only DH & I so we sit together. Our flights have been on time except once for weather.

I only flew AirTran once, way back in 2002, but I enjoyed the experience. The planes were in good shape (one of them was brand new) and the flight crews were both excellent. The price was also great, within $2 of SWA, who always has the cheapest fares from BWI-MCO.

Over the last 6 years, AirTran has also replaced every plane in their fleet with brand-new planes, right off the factory floor, so when you fly AirTran you will never be on a plane that's more than 6 years old.

I'd fly AirTran again without hesitation, except that SWA does not charge a fee if you want to change your flight, and I will often change my itinerary once or twice before a trip (adding a day or changing flight times or rebooking to get a cheaper fare), so I usually go with SWA.

I've flown AirTran a few times and my only complaint was they tend to change flight schedules last minute.

Forgot to mention that they have XM radio now on all their flights.

We flew Airtran 2 years ago and had a great experience. I think they did change the time of one of the flights, by 30 minutes, so check that!

They have different levels of picking your seats, depending on what you paid. Some levels you can pick your seat at time of booking, other levels can check in 24 hours before the flight to pick the seats.

We are flying with them again next weekend, so I hope all goes well!!!!

Mary

Thank you everyone for your input. mepperson, let me know how your flight goes next weekend. Have a great time!

One more question, Is Airtran one of Disney's "Magic Express" airlines?

One more question, Is Airtran one of Disney's "Magic Express" airlines?

All airlines are part of DME. What you are thinking of I suspect is the Resort Airline check-in (RAC). Based on evrything I have read beginning May 5 you will be able to use to RAC for Airtran flights. This is the first time that I am flying with them too so I am also a little concerned. We have paper tickets so I am hoping that they actually do have assigned seats.

Ok, so is "RAC" when they bring your luggage right from the plane to your hotel room? I'm sorry for all the questions. I appreciate your help!

On your flight to Orlando, if you take DME, Disney will take your checked bags from the Orlando airport to your room. Just put your DME tags on your bag when you check your bags at your home airport, and you won't need to handle them again until they are in your room.

In order to avoid checking your bags at the airport on your return flight, your airline must be part of RAC. As stated above, AirTran is reported to start providing RAC beginning May 5. That means you can check your bags at participating Disney resorts before you board DME for the ride back to Orlando airport. You will not need to check your bags at the Orlando airport and you should be able to pick up your bags at your home airport.

We usually fly SWA out of Providence but we just booked AirTran for our first flight with them for Christmas week 07. The Airtran flight times were great, we didn't want to wait until August until the SWA flights will likely be released and the prices were less than what we paid last February on SWA. We paid the extra $20 per ticket to reserve our seats when we booked them (we expect the flights to be busy on Christmas week) but each round-trip ticket was still $100 less than we paid SWA for similar non-stop flights last February.

You can do advance seating at time of purchase on any fare paid if you book with a travel agent. Online, you can book your seats depending on the price of your ticket. Cheaper fares are eligible for seat assignments 24 hours prior to flight.

I will be traveling with small children, if there are no seats for us to sit together when I attempt to get assign seats on-line 24 hours prior to our trip, will they accomodate us and seat us together when I check in at the airport? This is our first flight via Airtran and I didn't like the no seat assignments when I purchased on-line but I did like the price.

Thanks in advance.

We flew them last year and it was wonderful. I really like the fact that you're not in the "cattle call" line like at SW. The plane we flew on was brand new and had satelite radio. They give you earbuds or you can bring your own. The FAs were terrific, they even upgraded my daughters to business class for free because they gave up their together seats for another family. They were 16 & 14 so sitting together isn't a big deal, but business class is another story. They were livin high on the hog! We are flying with them again in Sept. $59 each way.
GREAT PRICE + GREAT SERVICE = GREAT VACATION!

Just back - we had a great experience with AirTran last week. We checked in 24 hours in advance and got 3 seats together that were exactly where I wanted them. Easy luggage check-in when we got to DFW. We even got to Florida 15 minutes early.

I was worried about getting seats for the flight back because I was not able to check in exactly at the 24 hour mark (having fun at Epcot). It was more like 18 hrs before the flight and I was still able to get the EXACT seats we had on the first flight. Couldn't print out our boarding passes since no printer, but no problem. Just got those when we checked our luggage. Return flight was delayed an hour, due to big storms in Florida Sunday night, not AirTrans' fault. Several flights delayed.

Will fly with again.

Welcome back Mepperson! I'm glad you had a great time. Thanks for sharing!
