Does a lot of trips to Disney desensitize your kids? Feed back please!

Well, I don't think it desensetizes them - but I think it does change the way they feel about it. Not necessarily in a bad way, though.

I think, for kids and adults, after taking many trips (every year or whatever), Disney World starts to feel almost like "home" - and the excitement you get (or your kids get) when you're there is the happiness that comes from being "home" among places and things that have come to have great meaning and memories for you. It's the same feeling you get when you know you're going to see a wonderful old friend that you don't get to see all that often.

Now, that's a different kind of feeling from that rush of excitement you have on your first few trips, when everything is brand new and you're just trying to take it all in, but I think it's very special in it's own way.

I really hope this made some sense. It's late and I'm medicated, so I'm sure I'm rambling a bit.

For what it's worth, my little guy will be three in May and he's been to Disney World four times.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

For my kids, no, not yet. They are 8 and 10 and have been to WDW twice and three times. They have also been to Disneyland at least one time every year since they were born.

They are really wanting to go again already, and we just went in October.

I do know a family that burned out. They had a been there, done that attitude. :confused3 They did go all out, they have a fairly unlimited budget. Also they never found the DIS, so I am sure they missed a lot of what Disney has to offer.

I just rediscovered the magic of Disney this past May. Since then, including then, I have done 4 nights May, 6 nights Sep, 6 nights Dec, and 12 nights this jan/feb. We are heading back for 6 nights in Apr. I usually travel with my mom and my 5 year old, because my husband just can't get the time off that I get.

Under most circumstances I don't think that I would be able to take 5 trips in a year, but it was cost effective this year for us... we bought APs, I work for an airline so we fly for free, when we go the room only route we get a 50% discount as an airline employee, and with the ME we don't have many extra expenses.

Now as far as burnout goes... my little boy is as in love with Disney as ever...more so. The first time was amazing, but this last trip was too. To see how he has developed from being sort of shy around the characters to full out running up to them, hugging them, and playing with them has been amazing to watch and does this Mommy's heart good.

When we aren't there he saves all of the money he finds for Disney..."Here Mommy, money for Disney World!"

We bit the bullet in Jan and purchased DVC...April will be our first official trip home....Yeah!!! :cheer2:

Each year so far has been exciting. We dont make the parks the focus of the vacation. We try not to overload by doing everything and we try to save something different for the future visits. We have not done Epcot, Disney quest, or any water park. Universal, Seaworld are also on the list to do in the future....makes it exciting for us and them. By the list of to do parks we will have many vacations ahead of us.

Oh, we also make the resort part of our vacation. That is what is so great about Disney, lots to do if you want and great resorts to enjoy if you dont want to do anything.

My DS who is 5 has gone 11 times and my DD who is going to be 4 next months has been 10 times. The check out day of our last trip my DD was crying sayng we come back to Disney Momma?

We are going back for Easter.

Burnout for the kids? NO WAY! Burnout for my DH??? DIFFERENT THREAD ENTIRELY!!! :rotfl2: My son just turned 4 on our last trip in October and it was his 6th trip. DD was nearly 5 months old during that trip...her very first!!!

I never went to WDW as a child (my mom never flew) and the first time I ever went was in 1997. I have been 14 times since. It just feels like HOME to me. DH and I were just dating then (we were 24 years old) and it was the first time for both of us. That trip was soooo special to me!!!! And now we make it a point to go every year. :wizard:

There will ALWAYS be magic at WDW for me...no matter how old I get. I am convinced of it. And I hope it's that way for my kids!!!

Not for me, not for my daughter, not for my wife, but my in-laws are a different story.

My daughter was 14 months on her (and my) first trip in Sept 04.
She is now 2 1/2 years, and has been 5 times.

I guess we will see what effect that has as she gets older. We havent been to WDW in 6 months, and won't go for another 6 months (due to the recent birth of her brother), but we are going to DL in may.

I have to go against the general feeling here...

My kids aren't that excited anymore. It is just another family vacation to them. I try to build up the excitement - make countdown calendars, etc. BUT they smile and say great and that is about it.

We'll still have a good time, but DD 8 is OVER the princesses (rolls her eyes and huffs) and DD 5 is starting to lose that wonderment, too.

I try to make ADRs for new places - this upcoming trip they are doing the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and going to Camp Dolphin one night while we eat at bluezoo. We'll spend more time swimming (they always enjoy that) and relaxing a bit more.

We just did the DCL this past January and my kids loved it. Why? Cause it was new to them! When we got off DD 8 was practically in tears and I said to her - don't worry, we're going to WDW in a few months and she said - BUT we've already done that a million times!

DH has a DL in California trip in the works for this summer and they're a bit excited about that - going on an airplane, etc. But, I see Vero Beach in our future often with our DVC and making trips over to Universal as they get a tad older.
