Does a cancelled dining reservation go straight back into the pool?

I made a reservation for friends using the touring plans reservation finder and while I know they can show up and use it no problem I'm not sure if they will be able to valet their car at the contemporary as they don't officially have a reservation (I never drive so am unfamiliar with parking). If I cancel it (Chef Mickey's) and they are right next to me ready to take it.......will it appear quickly? Thanks

From what I've seen, it usually reappears right away. However, sometimes it goes away for exactly an hour and then shows up again. I'm not sure why. Of course, every once in a while someone else is on at the "right" time and catches it first, but that is less usual.

I have done this with a friend right next to me before and it didn't work. I reserved Garden Grill for them and I released it so she could pick it up right away. When I cancelled it, it never showed up and I tried all day after that and it still never showed. I have coordinated with members on here and it worked though.. so I guess it can be a hit or miss.

I think sometimes Disney feels they have overbooked and wants to recapture some ADR inventory so has certain restaurants to not make a cancelled time open back up. The hard part is that while most ADRs will show up again right away, there's no way to know which restaurants and days will be the exception.

This. OP if your friends can't valet their car at the Contemporary, they can park at TTC and take the monorail. Ive also had success calling IT and they can 'transfer' it from your account to theirs I believe with both parties permission.

This is confusing. You made a reservation in your name that someone else is going to use?

I got an update from Touring Plans reservation finder that a Chef Mickey's reservation is now available when my friends want to go. She is a teacher and would be unable to book at the time of this notice so I booked it. They would then walk up and check in and say my name to the hostess and be seated.

Thanks. I could add her as a friend in MDE and then add her to the reservation I think. Would just be easier to cancel and her book it but it is their only table service reservation so don't really want to risk it.

But it may not become available again if you cancel it - does she have a MDE account? If so, call IT and see if you can transfer from your name to hers.

You don't really need to transfer anything. Just have your friend give your name at check in.

That would work at the restaurant but I don't know if when parking at the contemporary if they can just say my name or you also need some ID. I never drive on property.

I don't think they will have a problem either way, but it should be really easy for you to add your friend to the ADR so that she can show them the reservation in her MDE if they ask, although I don't think they will. I book all of our ADRs on my account and don't ever add my husband due to laziness, the couple times we have driven he gave them my name and they checked his ID and let us through, we have completely different last names and we were never questioned.

You don't need to go through all that. If you can't connect accounts in MDE for whatever reason then just make sure she has the name and dining confirmation number written down somewhere. Thus far there haven't been issues reported with parking at resorts reasonably near to the time of the confirmed dining reservation.
