Does 13-month AP perk apply when upgrading tickets?

Hi! We are heading to WDW in December and both DS and I have unused park hoppers already attached to MDE which we are planning on using on the trip. We will most likely return next year, so I'm thinking of upgrading our tickets to AP's. I'm just wondering if the 13-month AP perk that was released for MK's 45th anniversary applies to tickets upgraded to AP's? Or would we need to purchase an AP voucher to get the perk. Thanks!

I just upgraded my children's tickets to an AP on Thursday. We got the 13 months and were able to price bridge.

What is the price to upgrade tickets to an AP? Would it be a savings if we plan on coming back once more time, or should it be twice to make up for the price difference? Thanks!

we miss out then:(

We have 1 day park hopper tickets that we want to upgrade to the 13 month AP. We are not getting to the parks until the end of January. When I called ticketing they said when I was ready to buy the AP I could call them and they would refund my purchased 1 day ticket (not part of a package, but purchased from Disney) and charge the full price of the AP. So, it's kind of upgrading it. If you purchased your tickets from Disney you can probably do the same.

(1) My sister has a park hopper and will be at WDW in December. If she upgrades to an AP then (after at least one use of the hopper), will she get the 13-month AP? So it would be valid through January 2018?
(2) If I buy an AP now but don't activate it until March 2017 when I'm at WDW, will it still be a 13-month AP? Or would it have to have been activated before the 13-month AP promotion is over (sometime in the beginning of January, I believe).

TIA for info. I've been reading and reading about this, but--as you can see--I'm still confused!

If you will be using more than 10 theme park days in one or more trips, an AP will be a better value than multiple ticket purchases.
AND, an AP offers additional discount opportunites.

(1) She does not have to "use" any of the ticket before upgrading (although she CAN, if she'd like.)
(1b) Yes.
(1c) It will be valid for use for 13 months from the initial date that it is activated.
(2) Likely, yes.
(3) Unlikely.

Robo -- Thanks! I guess things have changed since I last did this.

I believe I found the answer to my second question--if I buy it now, it's good for 13 months from the date of first use, as long as I use it within 18 months of the purchase date. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

ETA: clarification
