Dodgy locations?

Just wondered if there were any dodgy areas in Orlando (or areas to be on your guard) and if all the locations where the holiday villas are all ok?

I havent heard anything bad but just wondered as its something I wanted to be aware of!

I'm sure there are some dodgy areas, just as there are anywhere. Just stick to the main tourist areas (and I would include all the villa locations in that description) and take sensible precautions.

The area around the Orange Blossom Trail is somewhere to be wary of but I don't think the holidays rental are too near.

I agree with Deb stick to tourist routes.
We got lost the first time in orlando, and ended up in a very dodgy estate, We locked the doors, and drove by at speed right out of there.
I always feel safer when there is other cars around and people.

Agree regarding the Orange Blossom Trail area - apart from the Florida Mall!
We stayed at a home in the South area, near Loma Linda that wasn't as nice as some of the newer developments although I am not saying it wasn't safe.

All the locations around the 192 in Kissimmee are (as virtually all areas are) very safe.
Indian Point. Cumbrian Lakes, Indian Creek, Formosa Gardens and Rolling Hills in particular are very pleasant.

To be honest I don't think you will have too much to worry about.

Orange Blossom Trail ( is must place to stay away from ) - never leave it to late to leave the Florida Mall.

I can't remember the exact location it was along Orange Blossom trail, we visited "Big Lots". I kept seeing it on TV and thought I must go. Well it was 10am on Monday morning and I felt unsafe. Dodgy area and adult entertainment etc. We found the shop and debated going in, but thought well it can't be all that bad. We spent about 15 mins looking around before DH said I think we should go. It was then that we relised something was wrong. The cashiers wouldn't let us out of the store, they had locked all the doors! They told us that the store had been robbed and the police had asked them to keep everyone in the shop. Well then after a few mins, the police asked everyone to come out the store with their hands in the air. We marched out with about 5 police cars circling the store and armed policemen pointing guns at us. We were all searched and told to stand to one side while they looked for the robber, who was long gone. It was quite dramatic and just like on telly! My DD age 9 was a bit shaken and out other DD age 3 had her hands in the air as well. Once we were outside and safe we found it quite exciting. The other people in the store, all Americans were more concerned about their shopping than any else. The shop was taped off and we went home. Never again!

The last twice we have been to Florida, we have stayed in a friend's villa on the Osceola Parkway. To get to WDW was great, straight along the Parkway, but if we wanted to go down to the US192, we had to drive down Orange Blossom Trail and we were never worried. According to the Guidebooks, the sleazy part of Orange Blossom Trail is south of the US192.

Unfortunately our friend has sold her villa and we are staying in a condo this time but it is on the US192, just past the John Young Parkway and up to press, we have not been too worried about this area, although somebody on one of the boards has said the area around Osceola Square Mall is becoming a bit 'tatty'.
