Documents?

This is certainly a 'newbie' question...but when do we get our official documents?

Usually about 4-6 wks before sailing.

However, since DCL sends them to a TA if used, they may take a bit longer to get to you.

We had a big Dis group last time. People from UK got theirs three weeks before people in NC, because of the Travel agent's delay

We received ours about 2 weeks prior to sailing.

I think 2 weeks is more common than four weeks. Often its more 7-10 days. Ours came ten days before sailing.

It's a misconception that using a TA delays your documents. I know that at Dreams we have the documents go directly from DCL to our clients. It is up to the discretion of the agency how they want them routed.

It's DCL's policy to send them 10 to 14 days in advance, but with luck you'll get them earlier.

I've put a hex on my TA! (I did not chose this one...MIL did--long story)
We sail June 11 on the WC Magic...and still no Docs!! I don't feel panicked as I can print out most of the forms from the DCL website, but it seems like there would be something reassuring about actually getting the packet on the doorstep.
Docs or no docs, I am sailing in just over a week!

We've always booked through DU. For each of our cruises we've gotten our documents at least 30 days before. But, then again documents are not sent by ground delivery, only by air to here. That accounts for a a few days when sent by UPS or FedEx.

We just got our docs for our June 18th cruise this week (we were the last on our cruise meet thread to get our docs). Our family from Hawaii is getting theirs on Monday or Tuesday (according to our TA & DCL) so that'll be less than 2 weeks before the cruise.

On our previous cruise we got our docs 5 weeks before sailing so it really is hard to tell when you'll be receiving your docs.

I received my docs 24 days prior to our 6/25/05 cruise. However, we do not have air travel. Maybe that might have something to do with?

They come in a box that looks like you have just ordered new checks, slightly bigger. I always thought it would be an envelope. Ours came UPS, I booked directly with DCL.

On the prior cruise I booked to the Travel Agent, she called and left a message to tell me they were in, but she would not be in until 2 or 3 days. That pissed me off a little. She was the same TA that didn't inform of the different Cat 3s on board. My last 2 cruises, I booked on board and this last one, directly threw DCL.

So I'm reading that I don't need to print all these forms and get them filled out...a set will come with my documents? I had downloaded the Adobe file, but had not printed them yet.

Correct...you don't have to print the docs out from the DCL website....when your docs come from DCL you will have to fill those out. I have not gone to that part of the site yet, are the docs that you can print out from the DCL site specific to your reservation or are they just blank documents??? If they were specific to your reservation I could see DCL eventually eliminating delivery of docs to homes to save shipping costs in the future.

They are just blank forms. You are right...seems like they could electronically mail the documents easier than mailing. I'm sure that will happen eventually. Might save some worrying Let's suggest that...and see if they will divide the postage they save and discount our cruises Oh I'm sorry...did I write that out loud?

It's always nice (and somehow more 'real') to have documents in your hand

I am surprised, really. I called the TA today to find out where my docs were and was ready to scold them...what if we were leaving today to go to DL before the cruise instead of after! She called DCL and "because of a mix up with their system" our docs weren't printed or sent yet! For the JUNE 11 Magic cruise! Good thing I called. DCL is going to send them FED EX on Monday so we should get them Tuesday.

So, it is good to stay on top of these things! I sure hope there are no more mix ups on this trip. We are traveling WITHOUT the inlaws this time and looking forward to not being around their constant chaos and confusion!

My worry is that living in the UK they will take longer, however before the August repo to take advantage of the costly flights we are off, ten days before the DCL Magic cruise, so the documents if sent out 14/10 days before will not get to me in time!

However I am comforted by my resivation on the system now, so I will just have to prove who I am at the post if they do not show in time.

Can't wait to meet everyone on the august repo!!! Derek...you may want to call DCL and tell them that you will be away before the cruise...they may just arrange for you to pick them up at the port as to avoid them not getting to you in time before you leave. You would then just fill them out in the terminal. No problem as we have done that before and it goes pretty quick.
