Doctors Perform C-Section, Only to Find No Baby

I'm hoping this is a prank b/c it sounds way too out there!!! When I as in labor with both of my kids and went to the hospital a quick ultrasound was given both times to make sure of everything!! this is so umm wow

I didn't have a sonogram before my unplanned c-section.

I had two unplanned c-sections, and the first time I didn't have a sonogram. But, I had been on the fetal monitor for an hour or so, they could hear the heartbeat, etc. The second time, I had an ultrasound the same day, and that is when they found the problem with resulted in the c-section.

Maybe the mom wanted to pull off the best April Fools joke ever.:confused3

If so, mission accomplished.

A friend of mine lost a baby at 30 weeks. She wasn't feeling movement and went to the doctor. They listened for a heartbeat and didn't hear one. So they immediately did an ultrasound to confirm the baby had no heartbeat and had died. They then sent her to the hospital to induce labor so that she could deliver the baby.

I've never had a baby but isn't it normal that the doctor would do an exam to detect the position of the baby? Head up or head down? I've heard women say that the doctor said their baby was "in position" for birth. I would think they would need to know the baby's position before cutting her open.

Same thing happened with my sister-except she was 37 weeks. She went in for her weekly checkup, the dr couldn't find the heartbeat, they sent her for an ultrasound, then told her the baby was dead and induced labor.

I too have to wonder if she didn't get all caught up in the Y&R storyline! I had never heard of this happening before I saw it happen to Ashley!

*Just clicked on the link-didn't realize it happened in 2008!

That's just craziness to me. When I had my c/s, I was monitored to high heck, and I had an ultrasound to find the position of the baby. This sounds WAY too fishy.

I was traveling home today by plane. When I got home--I admit that I had to go and doublecheck the stories to see if perhaps it was an April Fool's joke.

I was disappointed to find that it was not.

There was a Grey's Anatomy with this storyline--but the lack of a baby was discovered in what would have been the first half of the pregnancy.

I'm just envisioning Bailey going ballistic on the Gray's peeps.

Well, my in-laws just moved away from there. That Dr. is the one that performed her hysterectomy a couple years ago! Unbelievable! I am SO glad they are out of that town!!! Can you imagine that being your doctor and finding that out? It would make you question all your medical care.
