Anyone know of a good crash course? Between BBC America and Sci Fi I've quickly become a fan(and when will the new Doctor be shown in the states? It's still at Number 9)

Now that is a site! I came along with the Doctor before David Tennant(when will those come here?)

The sci-fi chanel already ran David's first season..His second season is 2 episodes in in the UK.. I've already seen them but sci-fi probably won't show them until the fall

DO you have netflix? Netflix has a much of the original series and I can give you reccomendations

I thought that Sci-Fi starts Dr. Who in the summer (July-ish, I think). Ten is my favorite, but I loved Nine too. :)

I believe they started series one(eccleston) in late winter /early spring of 06. It end in early july. Series 2 Started in around Sept/ October.
Series 3 will have to run it's full corse in the UK first and that won't happen iutil early July....I'm betting on an early fall run.
Sci-fi waited a year after series one ran in the UK to even buy it...By then we were so far behind that series 2 was already airing in the UK.. Now it seems like we are caught up and they should run each series with in a couple months of the end of it's UK run.

Many of the episodes are also available on youtube.com (usually broken into 4 parts). Most of the episodes of Captain Jack's spinoff series Torchwood (season one) is available also. google's beta video site has some too. I grew up watching Dr. Who on pbs and and really think Eccleston did a fantastic job reviving the roll -- wished he stayed around a little longer. I like Tennant also but his Dr. always seems so very angry or sad.

Why oh why are all the BBC shows so expensive to purchase here in the states!!!

I just paid $35 bucks for Hustle Season 2 for only 6 bleeping episodes!!!!!! I paid that for Coupling and more for Red Dwarf! Don't get me started on Dr. Who and Black Adder. I need to start a seperate savings account for those!!!!

Sorry, you guys can get back on topic now! Vent over!

BTW, while I love David Tennant, I really loved Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor! He was fantastic!

We watched on PBS back in the 80s & just loved it! I watched a couple episodes on Sci-Fi after they revived it with McGann, but never got into it. :confused3 Part of that was it conflicted with something the kids wanted to see & the way DH has things wired we can't watch one thing & record another. (digital cable)

But about 2 months ago I caught an Eccleston episode on BBC America & told DD she needed to find something else to do for an hour. :lmao: By the time they got to the last few episodes & the regeneration she was hooked! :teeth: She was so disappointed when they didn't just start airing the season over again. Hey - I'll admit it...I was disappointed too! ;)

Then last weekend we saw one of our PBS stations was just starting the Eccleston series. :teeth: All's right with the world again! :teeth:

OT - Have any of you watched the new Robin Hood series on BBC America? I'm loving it!! What a great show!! Robin is great, and the Sheriff is awesome! He's so evil, but is still fun to watch.

Netflix has season "one" (Christopher Eccleston)
The season 2 is listed, but is not avalible. They had a problem with at least disc one of the series. (texas chainsaw massacre came on 1/2 way through episode 2 on the disc) and they pulled the whole season and have not gotten it back yet. (I'm going nuts!)
We LOVED Christopher Eccleston. I was so sad when they regenerated him after only one season. We didn't care much for him when we caught a random episode in the middle of the season on sci fi, but when we watched from the beginning, we loved him!
But in the 1.5 episodes I have seen with the new doctor we already love him too!
I have been considering just buying season 2, but it is SO expensive. The cheapest I have found it, used or otherwise was around 70.00 with shipping.
NUTS!
(and we don't own season one yet...)
BBC america is WAY behind the sci fi channel on showing the doctor who's so keep an eye out there.

Between ebay, netflix and youtube this will be fun :) Already hooked so off to find more

I pursue a secret, shameful love for David Tennet's doctor. My husband is just happy I'll watch the show with him.

Man, this board moves fast! I wanted to read this a few days ago and couldn't.

I was ok with Chris. But I like D.T. more. His Doctor reminds me of a combination of some of the old ones like Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davidson.

I still have all of Peter's ep's from the 80's on VHS. I haven't watched them since taping them 20 something years ago off of PBS!

I still have many of the Tom Baker episodes on VHS from the 70's when I used to tape it off of cable (Channel 9 in NY, I believe). That was back when a blank VHS tape was $20. I cannot bring myself to erase those tapes either. My wife thinks (knows???) that I am crazy.

It took me a while to warm up to the new Dr. Who episodes, but they have grown on me.

I recorded on VHS every episode aired by PBS from Hartnell through Davison. Man, was that an undertaking!

I'm kind of an old-school Patrick Troughton fan myself.

And here I am thinking this thread was a sneaky way to root out "TheDoctor."

Where's our friend Kyle been, lately?

I never realized it was on channel 9! I thought my father used to watch it on PBS (channel 21, WLIW), but as I was typing this he called and said he used to watch it on channel 9.

My DH also liked it back then as well. In fact, DH used a Doctor Who comic book he had with Peter Davidson in it as a means to ask me out. That was back in 1987! He still has that comic book.
