Doctor dies in boyfriend's chimney
By QMI Agency

The couple were fighting and as Jacquelyn Kotarac tried to force her way into his house, the resident quietly slipped out undetected and spent the night elsewhere.

Dr. Kotarac, though, was persistent.

Police in Bakersfield, Calif., allege that she used a ladder to climb onto the man's roof, removed the chimney cap, and slipped into the chimney feet-first as a way of getting into the man's house.

When she did not arrive for work the next morning, her assistant and the man thought to be her boyfriend became concerned and started searching for her. She was reported missing a short while later.

Two days later, the man's friend was in his house taking care of his fishtank when she "detected a strong odour coming from the fireplace."

"Upon inspection, located the deceased woman lodged in the flue approximately two feet above the top of the fireplace interior opening."

Kotarac, 49, was only able to be removed from the fireplace after firefighters dismantled the chimney later that day.

"There is no evidence of foul play," the Bakersfield police department said.

"All the evidence thus far indicates Kotarac accessed the roof via a ladder and on her volition removed the chimney cap and slid down the flue feet first."

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Lord, what a way to go!

Seems she was a few bricks shy of a ...... wait bad joke. :confused3

Ergh, I read this on another forum that's not nearly as family friendly, and it REALLY turned my stomach. It mentioned the extreme heat that that area had been experiencing at that time, as well... :crazy2:

This horrific example is a reminder to all of us not to do anything when emotions run high.

I was wondering how she died in just 2 days....oh that poor woman. :sad1:

I imagine she died quite quickly. If your chest is compressed you can't draw a breath and you can suffocate within seconds. Around here people die every winter getting buried under snow - it's very, very fast.

Absolutely. How terrible for her....And the man, as well. It would really mess with a person's mind to know someone had been dead in your home all that time. :(

The stupidity of people baffles me at times.

Ewww! But, they BOTH sound like nut cases to me. That she climbed a chimney. And that the boyfriend had to sneak out undetected.

Was this some Fatal Attraction type of relationship? Maybe Darwin did society a favor. :sad2:

Strange that an adult wouldn't know how a chimney works.

How sad. You'd think she would have had more smarts than that. Too bad.
