We're in the midst of our first ever DVC stay after closing on a resale contract in September. As I sit here on the balcony of our studio at AKV Jambo on this beautiful Christmas afternoon, I'm trying to understand what this sensation is that I have... On the iPad trolling the resale sites, gawking at the DVC kiosks when I walk around the resorts, and spending hours on D-Point trying to figure out how many points we'll need for our next trip. Only to discover that I'll practically be borrowing from 2018 for the kinds of stays I want to put together (if only we could borrow that far out, that'd be dangerous...)

Is there a cure for this that won't cost me my retirement?? ;-P

For some of us, this IS part of our retirement!

Many plan to spend a few weeks in Florida during the winter months, myself included.

Off to check out the for sale ads myself.....

Sorry....no cure! But if you were ever going to get a "disease", this is the one to get. Enjoy your holiday (and many more;))

I'm so glad to read posts like yours! When the DVCs "work" for your family, it's a wonderful feeling!

1,200+ points and I still am waiting for the Grand Floridian sales to start! That's what I will be getting for my presents this year!

We got addonitis on our 1st ever DVC stay at BWV. We walked into the studio with a boardwalk view and DH said that we were going to need more points.

Bobbi, your post made me smile. It sounded something similar to what my husband said today. :goodvibes

Op, I'm happy to hear you enjoy your DVC and it is working for your family.

We are also new DVC owners at BCV. We purchased 250 points and haven't had our first trip "home" yet. We are booked for June 8-19th. I feel the same way...wondering how I can come up with the money for more points! My husband doesn't share my passion. He would rather "see the world". I LOVE my Disney vacations and I'm always planning the next visit. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

I have addonitis but luckily when I look at my bank account I am cured.

Here's where my point deficit really comes in to play... This morning, I booked our thanksgiving 2013 trip (6 nights at OKW). I had to borrow points from 2014 to do it!!

If all goes as planned though, we won't be taking a trip in 2014 since we might be going overseas that summer. So, by the time my 2015 points drop, we'll be itching to get back to WDW.

You betcha there is a cure. Add up the new points and the old points. Figure out the annual dues. Raise the dues a bit to figure out what you will owe in Jan 2014. Then it starts to hit you. Figure out what park admission will cost you. Those little kids hit 10 and you are paying a lot more to eat and visit the parks.

We sold off 175 points about 2006 (sold both contracts for more than we paid - that will never, never, never happen again in my lifetime). Fewer points is more manageable. You discover other things out there. Back away from the kool-aid.

I was enjoying this thread but I just new a Grinch would appear. It's Christmas time - we don't really want reality for a few more days.

Nah, just medical advice. I just play a doctor on TV...

So you really want to go over that Fiscal cliff...

I may know the train is coming but I choose to close my eyes and pretend it won't hit me - for this week anyway! (I think it hurts more if you anticipate and watch it coming)

It's a twelve step program. The final step for me was caving in, at least three times to date.

Reality is... I'm most likely looking at 100 more points some time in the next 2 years. Our littlest is going to be 3 in 2014 and we won't be able to get away with studios anymore. If we want to continue to travel to WDW once a year (which is what we've been doing) then I'll need more than the 100 I have for 1BR accommodations.

Yup, you will likely need more. We started with 200 at OKW in 2006 (bought resale). Then we added 75 HHI points this time last year and knew we'd add on more HHI points. With 75 we could do a few days in a 2BR every 3 years (with banking and borrowing). We have 3 kids and in 2006 we could get away with staying in a 1BR, but now the kids are all teens and we really need a 2BR. So, we wanted to add on more HH points to go more often than every 3 years plus I kind of liked the idea of having 300 points total that each of my 3 kids could use 100 points when DH and I are older and have no interest in using them. With all the talk of DVC rules changing we decided to add on now and just put in an offer to add 88 more HH points via resale (it was the only contract with our Aug UY...so we will have more than 300 points...now maybe I can go for 200 per kid ::yes::...just 237 more to go then).

That sounds like a great plan! I hear ya on the "rumored" rule changes. I've been half-tempted to go ahead and pick up that additional 100 sooner rather than later in the hopes that if there are changes, existing resale points would be grandfathered in.

<PS - This isn't an invitation to start a debate on resale rumors, there's already a thread (or twelve) for that...> ;)
