I am not Doc, but i would like to make some comments based on recent observations I have made on this board.
All of the DIS Boards represent micro-communities. They are essentially groups of people interacting on many different levels all of whom have a common interest. As with any community, there are certain rules, both expressed and unexpressed, which are present for the common good of the community.
One of the unexpressed rules deals with mutual respect for one another as adults. When a participant in the board begins to fabricate threads, it is simply a waste of the other participant's time and energy. Take me for example. I have a job, a family, and a life. I come to the DIS
DVC board to help others learn about DVC and to post legitimate questions and communicate with friends on topics related (sometimes loosely) to DVC. When I begin to have to sort through the posts because someone is making up posts, it loses it's attraction for me. Soon I leave. Others leave. Soon a community no longer exists. So for the good of the community, participants who are no longer interested in participating, but instead soley interested in advancing their own agenda, must be dealt with. And if this pattern of disruption is a chronic one, then banning of the participant is certainly reasonable.
Further, these boards are not a democracy. They are a private venture and are moderated for good reason. It is expensive to have server space for a large bulletin board like this. And while vigorous debate on certain topics is a healthy endeavor, spamming fake messages that take up server space and have no real purpose should not be tolerated.
Finally, I support Doc and the other moderators on their attempt to lend credibility and readability to this board.
I will not allow myself to be drawn into a debate about this in this forum. I have said my peace...
now on with the DVC discussions...
