Do your streets have curbs?

The first thing I noticed when I moved to Florida was the lack of curbs! I swear 95% of the streets have no curbs...not sure why...budget cuts?? It's pretty lame I think! Up north we always had curbs, in fact I only remember the country roads as not having curbs.

Anyways, do your streets have curbs?

Not too many curbs in my neck of the woods- South Florida.

I don't think it has anything to do with budget cuts-- we've never had that many curbs.

No, most of them don't and I live in Nashua nh. Only the main roads have them, not the side streets around me.

I grew up in suburban Detroit. One of those neighborhoods with the tiny little houses, and tiny yards that were separated only by a driveway. Everyone had a fence around their backyard. There were sidewalks and we had curbs. In the neighborhood I live in now down here in the South, we have no sidewalks, no fences, no curbs. Well actually, we have sort of "half curbs". You can ride a bike up one of these curbs and feel nothing. Ride a bike up one of the curbs in my old neighborhood, you are lucky to stay on the bike..

Nope, but I live in the sticks. We're lucky if we even have a decent amount of shoulder to walk on. Stinks because a lot of our kids have to walk a fair distance to get to the bus stop, and some spots the shoulder is really narrow...and people are bombing down the road at 50-60mph. :sad2:

When we were in FL we had no curbs which I didn't like cause I just thought it looked scrappy having your grass go all the way to the street edge. Here in NC we have curbs. I just think it looks a little cleaner.

no curbs....we put our own in with belgium blocks.....looks nice. Some people put in the railroad ties.

Within the city limits of Reno, yes. The unincorporated areas or the county areas no. Many of the "No" areas do not have sidewalks either.

When I was growing up in San Jose we had the yard, then the sidewalk, then a strip of more yard and then the curb. I miss that look. We have yard, sidewalk and then curb.

I live in the city, and that's how ours are. Yard, then sidewalk, more grass, then the curb. But the grass beyond the sidewalk usually belongs to the city here. We still have to maintain the grass, but any trees that are planted there are the city's to maintain.
FTR, in the surrounding suburbs and counties here, there are rarely curbs.

All curbs around here...... Sometimes no sidewalks....

When we were house hunting, we deliberately looked for houses that had no sidewalks - because you'll get fined if you don't clean the snow off them in a timely manner..... it wasn't so much the fine that bothered us but the shoveling of the additional snow!

Now we only have our stairs and driveway...... ;)

I live off a dirt road so definitely no curbs for me!

We have curbs in all the towns around here -- the only place I haven't seen them is in some unincorporated areas.

Installing curb and gutter (or not) isn't about budget cuts but budget maintenance or better, wise investment of public dollars.

It's cheaper to install and maintain a roadway without a full underground drainage system and curb and gutter.

Many areas (mine included) simply can't make an entire underground drainage system work because they aren't high enough above sea level.

Roadways without curbs are more fiscally responsible.

We have curbs in some places, especially on streets that have sidewalks. Where there are no curbs there are concrete gutters that separate the grass from the streets. We are required to keep our yards mowed and edged so it never looks shabby (nothing shabby about The Villages).

It depends. Some areas have curbs and others don't. My neighborhood doesn't have them but we don't have sidewalks either- small/older neighborhood with about 50 houses total. The other larger neighborhoods around us all have curbs. Most of the main roads have curbs but not all.

No curbs here nor sidewalks. But then I don't live within city limits. We do have drainage ditches that run thru the front yard, parallel to the road.
