On our past cruise, we left behind (unopened of course) pepsi, beer, candy, snacks for our room attendant to have - We just had no more room for it!

Do you think they have a party at night with all the food and drink left behind?:cool1:

Probably saves a lot on their food & drink bill!

Did you leave a little note to let the attendant know it was for him? I'm not sure what DCL's rules are, but in the past we have left little items like boxes of chocolate from Chicago or even occasionally alcoholic beverages with a note letting the host know that it was for him.

I dont know about Disney specifically but on Carnival, Princess and Royal Carribean we asked our room stewards about it and they all told us that they threw it all away no matter if it was open or not. It was a company policy that they could NOT consume anything left in a guests room regardless of if they left it for the steward or by accident.

I think it is kind of stupid to not let them and yet I dont know if it were me if I would want to eat someone elses leftover's (no offense to you or anyone else) but you just never know what some wacko might do to food. There was a case years ago in our local paper about a guy who used a hypodermic needle to insert arsenic into candy bars and then he gave them as tips to his mailman and newspaper carrier and they ended up either dying or being very sick (it was many years ago) but it is sad anyway.

Maybe they take it to their orgies!!!

Honestly?

Put yourself in their shoes. If you were cleaning up after people all week - and they left behind a bunch of stuff - would you open it up and partake?? Or, would you toss it out??

Face it - you left the stuff coz you didn't want to lug it. That makes it your junk - garbage - whatever. So - if they trash it - then, that's what you would have done too, right??

I too always wondered what they did with any food guests left. We had food gifts coming out of our ears and were so sorry we were not able to finish it or bring it home. We did leave a note to our stateroom host inviting him to enjoy. I would hate to think our fruit basket, chocolate covered strawberries, cakes, candies, etc. were trashed. :guilty:

I don't know about the room attendants, but on our last cruise my dad did not finish his bottle of wine at the last dinner and he told our server to take it to her room and finish it wiht his compliments. She said she would gladly enjoy the rest of the bottle.

On our cruise one of the girls in our party got a wine & cheese basket from her husband - none of us drink so we gave it to our head waiter and he said he would drink it and enjoy it.

I also gave my room attendant an unopened bottle of champagne. He took it with him that night to enjoy! I can see not wanting people's leftover opened food, but find nothing wrong with keeping unopened food or drink items.

The sentiment is nice, and of course, they aren't going to be rude about receiving a gift. But it really comes down to company policy and what DCL dictates their employees do in such situations.
Tip 'em or give/leave phone cards. Easiers and less questions about them keeping it or not.

Everything we left was unopened - We threw out all open items -

Barb - I didn't think to leave a note - Will do next time -

DMS_cruisers04 - We did leave phone cards and a lot more extra money for our room attendant (Raymond) - He was fantastic!

I am sure that with a note from the guest, the stateroom host/hostess's managers let them decide the proper disposition of a gift left behind. Openned food is probably thrown out for safety reasons, but on one of my cruises we had several cans of soda left, and I told my stateroom host he could have them and he was very thankful.

On a refent Greek cruise, we were fortunate enough to be invited to the Captains Table one night. Very Cool.

When we returned, there was a lovely bottle of wine in our cabin, compliments of the Captain.

We don't drink much, so we offered it to our terrific steward, who took it with Gusto.

When I saw him the next morning around 6 am, It was clear from the cloudy look in his eye that he thoroughly enjoyed it!

We've given unopened leftover wine (from the wine package) to our servers - they took it graciously; don't know if they actually drank it. We've given our room steward unopened packages of granola bars (not individual, but the entire unopen box of them), fruit juices (in the little unopened cartons) and unopened water bottles - but we gave them to him the last night as he was taking our luggage. He took them with a smile, but again, don't know if he actually used them. They certainly take the gifts graciously and very politely, but I don't know if DCL policy actually lets them use them. Interesting...never really thought about that. Guess I'll have to cruise again to find out for sure :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We left some unopened cans of beer (obviously unopened -- who'd drink from an open beer?) assuming that the steward would take them.

Actually last week I asked my atendant if she could take my roses to her room. They were still looking beautiful and I didn't want them to be thrown away. She said they were not allowed to but she would ask her supervisor. I asked her if I left a note if it would help and she said yes. So, I did. I don't know if she was able to take them or not, but I hope so!

They probably really appreciated the wine. CM cannot purchase any liquor & bring it back onboard at the ports so they can't take advantage of the deals. They can accept it as part of their tip though. We found out this while talking to our main server before St Thomas and he was telling us some of the best places to find things. He did get a little something extra with his tip from our tablemates.

I did not finish all of my wine from the wine package. There were two bottles left and I did not want to pack them and take them home with me. I gave them to my assistant server. I asked her if there was someone I needed to talk to or something I had to sign in order for her to receive them the last night at dinner. The next morning she told me that she had asked her supervisor and that there was nothing I had to do and that she was able to take them back to her cabin that last night after dinner. She was absolutly thrilled and even had tears in her eyes as she thanked me. I was very glad I have given them to her! She was soooo sweet and I enjoy her thoughfullness my entire cruise. Her name is Racheal and is from England and I will never forget her!
