Do your kids watch TV before school every morning?

DS #1 isn't into TV very much and sleeps until the absolute last minute. DS #2 likes to get up early but if I let him watch TV he would zone out and I would end up fussing at him to get ready. I don't let him watch TV in the morning.

I usually turn on Good Morning America for about 30 minutes and then DD will watch Dragon Tales or something like that in the a.m.

DD doesn't watch any tv before school because I wake her at 7:00, she eats breakfast, gets dressed, brushes her teeth, etc. and get on the bus at 7:50, so she really doesn't have time. DS, however, is only in preschool, and I don't have to drive him there until almost 9:00, so he does watch some tv. Actually, he's usually the first one up, and he crawls into to bed with us and wants the bedroom tv turned on!!

DD 12 gets up at 6:30 and leaves for the bus at 7:45, "NO TV" on in the morning around here.

I let mine watch. Sometimes they choose to read or do homework instead - today my oldest read for about 1/2 hour then worked on his science project. School doesn't start until after nine here and they're usually up around 7 so morning rush isn't a big problem. Once they hit junior high they'll have to catch a bus at 6:30 so no tv then!

Nope. She is up at 6:30am and we leave the house by 7:20am.

It is amazing what a diference 5 mins. can make crossing town in a.m. traffic!

No. We get up at 7 and leave the house at 7:45.

No TV in the morning has been the rules here since DS19 started school. He's in college now and may watch, but I doubt it. I'm sure he sleeps until the last minute!

My other two are still home. DS16 sleeps as late as he can. DS12 reads if he's ready early.

My son is not allowed to watch tv prior to going to school. It is too much of a distraction. He is to be in school by 7:50. I wake him at 7:00 am and have him dressed and down stairs by 7:20 for breakfast. We review the day's events and get his backpack ready with snacks, lunch, etc.

By 7:30 or so, he is in the car and we are on our way to school. This has worked out well for 3 years. And he gets his fill of cartoons after homework is done. He also gets unlimited tv on the weekends.

I tried the putting my foot down routine a while back & it worked. I said no cartoons, only news programes to be watched. That was fine until we got cable early December, just in time for the school holidays.

I thought to myslef, ok no harm done it's almost school hols, but then when school started back at the end of January, it was back to the tv for youngest DS...........eldest gets up as late as possible & dreams over breakfast.

At our house, when DN lived with us, TV was on but DH was watching local news and DN didn't have access to the remote.

DS watches House of Mouse each morning and gets dressed when it's over. He's always ready to go on time, it's Mom who has trouble getting her act together.

I watch The Today Show in the morning so we know the local weather forcast. I leave it on the whole time we are getting ready. It's interesting enough, but not enough to keep them in a hypnotic state. If I let them choose what to watch they'd never get ready in time. LOL! I must admit that mine are almost 12 and 15. We used to watch Pooh in the mornings.

DS15 watches the news with his Dad in the morning while they eat breakfast. I just have tea. I don't know how anyone can eat so early in the morning.

I think that maybe T.V. is a way for your son to have some free time knowing he has a long day ahead of him. Maybe you could get a computer "educational"....but FUN program for him to do in the morning instead of watching T.V. There are so many programs I'm sure you could agree on one!

I find that having the tv on is a huge distraction and makes them zone out. I watch the news first thing upstairs and then we come down and get breakfast, etc. My oldest is better with time management and he spends time on the computer in the morning. My middle takes his time, but usually he just has enought time to get ready and then finds something to play with for a few minutes waiting for the bus. My youngest usually works on spelling, reading, or math facts - I find that little extra educational boost in the morning really helps her. Two walk to school but the other leaves before they do on the bus. Occasionally, if everything is finished, I'll let them watch something for 20 minutes or so.
