Hey anyone who finds this. I hope you use this as a place to talk about animals that you or your kids love, or about your kids or children in your life that you love or about your silly trips to Diz. Or anything at all. I will stop by periodically to say hi!

my daughter,7, goes absolutely ga ga over horses! Doesn't matter what color, shape , age or size! She has horses all over her bedroom! We counted them some time ago and she had well over 500 in a tiny 9 x12 room!

I did too at that age. My two boys aren't as nutsy about horses as my daughter. What is it about girls and horses in the east? Does anyone know?

Horsegirl-

I came over to the community board as you asked in your post on the trip reports board. I truly appreciate your telling us why you go to the World, as many of us feel the same way about our kids. My DH and I are awaiting the arrival of our new daughter tomorrow, about 3pm. We are adopting a 5yo girl (my friends niece) and we have a bio daughter age 6. I understand about your wanting to keep the kids together. Just like your little Stitch-"Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind." You sound like a great mom and I am glad to get to know you better through your trip report.

My DD6 is crazy about animals-dogs, cats, horses, fish-you name it. She says she wants to be a vet when she grows up. DD5 says she wants to be an MD. Apparantely, DH and I are going to be in the poorhouse!!! But I will do everything I can to take them to the World every now and again and let them be kids and enjoy some time with mom and dad without all the outside distractions of work, school, real life.

It is amazing that when people hear we are adopting, the first thing they ask (after what country is the kid from?? :confused3 ), is which one of us has the problem with fertility. We don't have one. We just wanted to expand our family and this opportunity is a blessing for both DD and us. DD6 has been to the world twice now, but DD5 (even though she lived in FL) has never been. What a wonderful thing this will be to see it through her eyes as she experiences it for the first time. How lucky I am.

Sorry to babble on but I thank you for your trip report and for sharing with the rest of us Disers.

Veronica

Hi horsegirl. I've been reading your trip report too and really enjoying it. You're a great writer!! As for animals, my DD16's passion is horses. We made a long distance move right before her freshman year in high school and she had a really hard time adjusting. She is very quiet, shy and has a hard time making new friends. After several months in our new home, we recognized that she was really struggling and pushed her to get involved in something...anything. She was literally going to school, coming home, shutting herself in her room to do homework and doing the same thing the next day. She always liked horses so I suggested she try riding lessons. She agreed to try it and was hooked after one lesson. It's now 2 years later and she rides every week, competes in horse shows (hunter jumper) and volunteers helping with therapuetic riding lessons at a local stable for disabled riders and is going to major in Equine Studies at college. She wants to teach therapeutic riding as a career since she has seen the positive effect the horses have on the disabled riders. As a parent, I have seen the incredible positive emotional effect the horses have had on DD. The riding lessons aren't cheap but the joy she gets from the horses is worth every penny. I honestly don't know where she would be if it weren't for the horses. As an FYI...she is still quiet and shy but has a nice small group of friends at school and is also involved in school clubs in addition to the riding.

Hi reesa and vern! Thanks for stopping by! I made a big mistake in replying back early on and could not keep up and was concerned how to respond to everyone. So hopefully some people will find this! I do not have a whole lot of time, but I did want to say vern, that it was always my intention to adopt due to my phiolosphical issues about overpopulation. I saw an episode as a child of All in the Family, where meatloaf and the bigot's daughter, discussed this. I was maybe 8 or 9. It left a strong impression on me! I also want to contribute so much to this planet! My loss was so profound, that I lost sight of that conviction of mine, but I applaud you. Please keep me posted about your process!

Reesa, I rode as a child and was shy and insecure. It was a wonderful thing to hang out at the barn. It still is. Of all the places in the world, nothing gives me more joy. Your daughter sounds amazing. I hope I can raise my kids as well as you clearly have! I too wanted to be a vet, but was stinky in bio and math :confused3

Bye guys. I am so not supposed to be sitting here, now.

DD loves animals in general. We live in the city and can see parts of the ZOO from across the vally. We also have our own little zoo ( Dog ,Cat,2 tanks of Fish,Guine pig,Water Frog and Hermit crabs).

However I think her favorite pets are her DISNEY inspired 2 Anoles .We love looking for them bobbing their heads at the parks and resorts .It's like a game who can find 1 first.

I told her the only way to get a horse is to start selling fruit and Veggies like they still do here in B-more.

You have a wholelotta topics there to choose from. My dd scored 2 goals in her soccer game this past Friday. I told everyone she scored 7. I wouldn't get out of my vehicle because it was raining and misting. Why is that funny-because my eye site is getting bad and I can't tell one blond hair ponytail girls from another. We won 15-0-see why I lost track!

Nope, we don't have any animal's, but I get the pleasure of cleaning up after a lot of messes. Some are left by unwilling pet owners to pick up, or from the neighbors who just figure their dog will remain on their property, same with the cats.

My DD was (still is) also horse crazy. She rode competitively until college forced her to stop for awhile. She was blessed to make friends all over the country and enjoyed every minute of it.

Now that she's in college, I've taken over the barn cleaning duties every afternoon. Before anybody laughs, I've lost 16 lbs in the last couple of months (hooray for productive exercise!)... :rotfl2:

My DD9 loves animals -that can be seen by the menagerie we have in our home. I am an animal lover as well, so it is not difficult for me to indulge!

She also loves horses (I did too), but she is fortunate to be taking riding (hunter jumper) lessons. She is on a little break right now, but it is such a great thing.

We also have a new litter of kittens in our house, and she has been so good with them. First thing in the mornig she checks on them, and first thing back from school. She is very attentive and observant of the changes from day to day.

She loves going to Sea World and watching the mother and baby dolphins in the nursery. Petting zoos, pet stores, anywhere there are animals!

She wants to be either
a) Vet
b) Horse Trainer
c) Animal behaviorist/trainer - like at Sea World
