My DD is in 5th grade. All she wanted was a locker shelf, 2 bins and some magnets for pictures. Her Lacrosse sweatshirt and backpack take up too much room. She keeps gum and mints on the top shelf along with anti-bacterial hand sanitizer in her favorite scent.
I had no idea decorating lockers was no longer considered "cool" LOL! Every girl in my middle school and high school had at least a mirror and some pictures in our lockers. We would also decorate the insides and outsides for our friends' birthdays. But this was a long time ago. I guess times have changed I agree with PP who said let her decorate if she wants to. She's a kid, she should have some fun at school! Maybe she'll bring locker decorating back into style
Same with dd15 at the begining of high school she bought all sorts of shelves magnets, mirrors ,pencil holders, white boards, you name it. Shes only taken a couple pieces to school because no one else does it and she doesnt want to be made fun of.

I have boys- so the answer is a big NO. Unless you call a school year's worth of gym clothes in the bottom of the locker "decoration"....
My HS'er hasn't used a locker all four years there. His locker is clear across the school from where his classes are. And seniors don't get lockers in his HS anyway- not enough of them to go around.
My DD is a junior and she has done it for years. She does the inside at the beginning of the year and then I know her friends will decorate it for her for sports and holidays!
Some of the girls in the High School do but there isn't time or space to do that in Middle School. Those lockers are tiny.
My DS17's locker is next to a girl who has a mirror and locker organizers. He said she is always primping between classes. And he said she was in one of his classes and was late alot because of it. Ooops.
They are allowed to decorate the inside of their lockers in High School with whatever as long as it isn't permanent and doesn't break any school rules.
The teens who decorate usually bring the stuff on the day they get their class schedules and will decorate them then because there is no time once school starts.
DS (grade 6) has no interest. - I did offer to get him a plain divider shelf, just to make more room, but he didn't want one. I'm not sure if it's not a trend there at all, or if maybe just the girls do it?
I know I decorated mine back in high school - a mirror, magnetic pen holder, that sort of thing. And I once filled my friend's locker with balloons for her birthday. It was great when she openend it!
