do your friends get jealous??

:lmao:

I just had my sweet little baby boy 5 weeks ago. When I found out I was pregnant, I had posted a message on my myspace account (I may be 31 but I have lots of friends I stay in touch with through myspace :cool1: ) Anyway, a friend of mine - who is pretty well off - sent me a link to an ebay auction where someone was selling their DVC because she thought I might want to sell mine too now that I'd be having a baby. I couldn't believe it to be honest, but maybe she didn't mean it to be offensive. I just felt like she thought I couldn't afford DVC with a new addition!

And my dad has recently mentioned he was going with us in May and his co-worker told him that SSR was pretty elite and to take a jacket to fit in. I had to show him pics of people in "regular" tees and shorts so he'd even feel comfy!
ALL THE MORE REASON!!!

Just enjoy your trip and don't worry about the others. Some will be jealous or envious. Some seriously others will just feel I can go to. Some will be thrilled for you, some won't care. Don't sweat it. I know some that go every year others every few. One of my friiends would love to go but she does not have the money for it. They have two homes, one is in a ski area. A son in college and a high school junior. We are in the northeast. This summer the school band is traveling to China for some kind of internations music festival right before the olympics. So there is $3000 out of her pocket. Last year it was the rose bowl parade. They would go but it is not in the cards for them. Another neighbor is going to Aruba for spring break. The people 2 doors down can barley aford to keep 2 cars going never mind a vacation. We went to Acadia National Park last summer and the Cape. There is to much going on to worry about what the others think just enjoy life as it comes. Some of it I enjoy as best I can and just roll with the puches. I am sorry if I am preaching to much but I just feel that life is to short to let what others think make a differnce in my plans. Just go and enjoy the magic for yourself.

I do get that "how can you afford to go now" question a lot now - especially because I haven't decided whether to go back to work or not. And it really does seem to be more out of envy than anything. And why do people think DVC is so "snobby" or something - at least they do around here? We booked a 3 br. GV but that was with our banked points! And we use tax money for spending... One reason we even bought DVC was so that we COULD afford yearly trips to WDW :lmao:

I can't wait to go in May! I might try to decorate our window while there so if you go to SSR for anything, look for green Mickeys in one of the big windows!!

I do have to say the AP's this year are hurting, but at least we have the tax rebate to buy them with. Next year we won't have to buy tickets so that will be nice. Beware, when you bring babies to WDW they grow up to be card carrying fanatics. At least you know it may be babies 1st trip, but not the last. My DD went for the 1st time when she was 8 months old. This May will be her 13th trips (she will have just turned 7 years old.) :thumbsup2

Oh yes, we get the ~ You are going to WDW AGAIN??? Mostly from family. Neither DH and I were brought up taking nice vacations. So our parents and brothers/sister-in-laws just don't get it!

And we definitely get the ~ How can you afford to go every year??? Especially since I've been a SAHM for nearly 3 years now. Well, it's not because my DH makes a million dollars or anything!! :rotfl: I just budget and cut out unnecessary things so we are able to go!

Plus we have priced other vacations. I just can't see spending nearly the same amount of money just to go somewhere else and be miserable and wishing we were in Disney the whole time!

54 days and counting ~ YAY for MAY!!! :yay:

Much like previous posters, we always get "again" or "why go there every year" or "don't you want to do something different"?

"Again?" Yup, again! ;)
"Why go there every year?" I love it!
"Dont you want to do something different?" Not really. :rotfl:

Seriously, I always love Disney, and took a lot of trips with my family and some just me and mom trips when I was in college. I developed a taste for it, so to speak. Thank god I found the DIS and others to share my taste!

My co-workers are always amazed that we want to go every year, but they also know that it's just part of my lovable personality! ;) And when they're planning their trips to see the mouse, who's there to answer their questions. :rolleyes1

For my family, it's one of the nicest places I feel we can take our son and do fun kid stuff but also have a nice grown-up experience with some of the finer dining as well. And because the expectation already exists that there are tons of kids at Disney, when you're eating at the Coral Reef or (insert nice World Showcase restaurant here) you don't feel like you shouldn't be bringing your toddler there. We save all year to be able to afford our vacation, and we love it!

Forgive me for being off topic, but I love the photo of your family in your siggie! Did you make the tie dye Mickey shirts? :)

Thanks, we did make them. I got the directions from Dis. We made tank tops this past summer, and they turned out great. Sadly I can't wear mine. With the female blessing God has given me, the poor mickey head looks all alien and stretched out. :scared1: So if you make one, make sure the shirt is nice and loose. :thumbsup2

We have friends coming in May and I really want to make some for them. I don't know if they will wear them with us.

Funny story, we wore them at Epcot once, and we saw another family in the restaurant at Canada. There was another family there with them one. We took one look at each other and said "Dis boards" it was too funny.

That's so funny! I really want to talk my husband into making some with me for our next trip. We both went to art school, so it's sort of up our creative alley. I did find the thread with detailed instructions, but had to comment, because I love the colors in yours. They seem more subtle, which I like. Of course, if I'm going to convince DH to wear a big ole tie dye Mickey, perhaps I should make it nice and bold!

They are more faded now from washing so much. We really need to make new ones. We used an old kiddie plate from the counter service places at WDW as the pattern. I have some new mickey head patterns form the kicthen products at the Disney store this past Christmas. The napkin holder should work perfect.

If you do it make sure you use good shirts that you really like the way they fit, they will become your favorite shirts fast. :cool1:

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

I think most people who think we're crazy to do Disney, are the people who don't do much vacation travel at all.

I find this to be sooooo true. The people who give us the most flack are the ones who never go anywhere. :confused3

We don't go to Disney every year, but we try to go on a nice vacation each year. Everyone seems to think we're rich or something. It's just a priority that we make. We do Disney every 3-4 years and we still get the "You're going to Disney again?" I really laugh when SIL, who spends $5-10K a year on various cosmetic surgeries, says she can't afford to take her kids anywhere.

I'm sure there will be tomatoes thrown at me, so please don't scream until you hear me out.......I think there are some people who flaunt their trips (not you, just people) and I wouldn't say I'm jealous of those people just annoyed by their show-off behavior. It could be that people are just sick of hearing other people gloat and you are just the one last straw on the camel's back. I know that I wouldn't want to hear about my trip at length if I wasn't going on it either...So, I don't tell too many people unless they ask and then I just mention we're going no details unless they ask for them....OK, throw the tomatoes.

No tomatoes. We go so often we tend not to talk about it with friends too much, unless they ask. :thumbsup2 In fact we don't even tell one brother when we go any more. I know they want to but can't afford it right now.

I plan and help so many of my friends out with trips that I live for details of how theres went and almost demand info form them. In fact we have taken a year off (between AP's) and I have really enjoyed hearing about my friends trips, in detail. It made me happy when they called me from the parks to say how they were doing and ask a few questions.
