Do your area schools still hold Halloween Parades?

Our younger son's private school does a Halloween parade every year - the younger ages really enjoy walking through the hallways of the middle school :) :)

Growing up in mid 70s we got to wear costume afternoon. We had a parade and party.

School where my boys went never did. Like others it us a Harvest party. No trgdr9to Halloween allowed in decorations, etc. A church lots of people in the small xomm6go to believe Halloween is the Devils holiday so the community respects everyone's views.

Lots of churches do the Trunk or Treating so kids go to one place.

I don't have kids so I have no idea what they do around here now. I have a feeling that it's less than what I got.

I was in elementary school in the mid '80s-early '90s. K-2nd grades got to dress up and parade around the school. 3rd-5th grades wasn't allowed to dress up at all. I was told by the school that I was "too old to dress up for Halloween"!  3rd-5th grades got a Halloween themed party at the end of the day. We had candy and decorations/crafts, but NO COSTUMES ALLOWED. Apparently costumes are for "babies". :rolleyes2 I rebelled against that notion and grew up to be a cosplayer! :stitch2:

I went to elementary school in the early 1980s and I don't remember ever wearing a costume to school. In younger years we may have had Halloween parties but just in our classroom. I'd never heard of school costume parades until I started reading message boards. My kids wore costumes (nothing scary) to pre-K at a private Christian preschool for a "fall festival" just before Halloween but never to public elementary school. Most classes don't do parties, even for kindergarten, as they're only allowed to do a certain number of parties during the year and Halloween doesn't make the cut.

The elementary schools in our small town all do, and the town allows the children to parade past our retirement homes, and businesses on the main street.

I was in elementary school in the lat 1970's, and we never dressed up for Halloween during the school day,or had a Halloween parade in school. We did have parties with lots of candy, bobbing for apples, other games, etc. in our classrooms.

In our town, we have 8 elementary schools (4 with grades k-2 and 4 grade 3-5) Some of the elementary schools have a parade, and some don't. Some of them have classroom parties for Halloween, and others don't. Those decisions are made by the principal of each of the schools. Interestingly, neither middle school allows costumes for Halloween, but both high schools do.

Our school has a hat parade. The kids decorate hats in different themes and parade the halls. Then they go back to class and have Halloween parties.

Our grammer schools have parades around the outside of the schools. (weather permitting) We also have Halloween Parties in the classrooms and Trunk-or-treat in the school parking lot. (after school hours) I think the trunk-or-treat started in our area after Hurricane Sandy. There was no electricity yet for Halloween and they canceled trick-or-treating so decided to put together a trunk-or-treat. The upper grades are allowed to dress up, but usually that is it.

DS's public school has a class party and then all-school parade. Lots of parent come to watch the parade as the kids walk around the school (usually outside, depending on weather) in their costumes.
DD's private school has the elementary kids dress up as their favorite historic figure.

Back in the dim days of antiquity of the Eisenhower administration, we had a Halloween Carnival in most of the Houston elementary schools. It was an evening affair with costumes, concessions run by the PTA, cake walks with cakes baked by parents, and other activities. Pretty fun, as a matter of fact. They changed the name to Fall Festival but kept all of the activities the same, to include costumes and a costume contest. (Which yours truly won once, dressed in a set of white long underwear over my clothes, white tube socks pulled up over my shoes, and a pillowcase over my head and arms with a black derby hat on top. Nobody knew what I was supposed to be -- including me -- but they obviously liked it!)

Update to the 1990's: Tex Jr. went to private schools, first Lutheran and then Church of Christ. The Lutherans did up Halloween with costumes (no masks) on the day of, goodies, and visiting each others' classrooms to show off their costumes. The CoC school taught the kids that Halloween was evil, and that they should all be afraid of it.

My kids are in a public school that goes up to 4th grade. They have Halloween parties where they can all dress up and "parade" in the back parking area for parents and family who can make it to see then they go inside for their parties.
I went to private Catholic school up to 8th grade (let's just say I was done there by the 90's) but we always had parties and were allowed to dress up until the 8th grade.

My kid's school doesn't allow them to dress up for Halloween, which seems odd to me. They haven't since at least the early 80s when DH was in school there. The school I went to still has a Halloween parade through town. My nieces & nephews get to participate every year.
Eta: both schools are public schools.

Mine back in the 70s-80s was dress up in costumes for the whole day. Individual classroom parties, which only consisted of eating homemade cupcakes, candy, juice, and treats provided by the "room moms" No parades. No restrictions on what kids could and could not be. Except the first grade teacher I had REQUIRED all of the kids her class to have homemade costumes. That cracks me up. She was so old-school, pretty much assuming all the kids had moms had the time and ability to whip out a sewing masterpiece. Well, I guess that was the era of the ugly plastic apron and mask costumes stores sold, which were awful.

My kids are now middle school and high school. At their elementary school, absolutely nothing during the school day. No costumes, parties, or events. Might offend someone. But they did have a huge Halloween carnival on an evening. That way, people who didn't want their kids to participate, just didn't go.

Nothing in middle school. My DD's small charter high school has an evening dance that kids can come in costume.

Our elementary schools all have a Halloween parade. High School marching band students go to all three elementary schools and play their instruments while the elementary students parade around the neighborhood. At my school the parade takes about an hour; students in grades K - 3 walk with the older students for the first half then go back to the school while students in 4 - 6 walk past a local nursing home.

Parents wait outside the school for the parade to begin. Staff members help the students dress in their costumes. Masks and weapons are prohibited.
