take your kids out of school to go to Disney? I have never done this but am considering taking them out for 3 days to go at a slower time of year.

yep...quite a few times in the past....we try not to anymore since they are in high school...but my honor student missed a week of her freshman year for a disney land/sea vacation and still did fine...

We have done so on more than one occasion and will be doing it again this September. We schedule in advance, notify the teachers of the upcoming absence and then get the homework covered before we leave.

We are missing 6 days of school for our next trip Nov 30- Dec 8th. DS in 4th grade and DD will be in k. Two years ago DS missed 5 days during the same time. Our school system doesn't have a problem with family vacations being excused absences and DS does excellent in school. Before that trip we had gone in July and decided never again! To crowded and to hot for us.

Yes, we have twin DDs soon to be 5th graders. We've taken them out of school in September every year (and will again this year). Granted, they are straight A students, otherwise I would certainly think twice.

Due to a change in school scheduling after paying for airline tickets, our son missed a week last year. He is a good student, but asked that we try not to do that again. This year, he will miss one day of school.

Used to when they were in elementary school, but stopped once they hit middle school. Too many teachers to deal with there.

I always look for short weeks. Like October they have a 3 day week after the 1st quarter ends. So I usually book something for that week.:thumbsup2

I always tell the teachers and Principal and never had a problem with it being excused.;)

DH is in commercial construction and Summer is so busy for them. Plus I hate dealing with crowds and higher prices ecspecially on DCL!

She is in 4th grade this year and I am actually pulling her out 2 days the week of Labor day to go to WDW the week of my Birthday.:cloud9: The beginning of the school year they don't give much homework!!

Our School schedules are out for the next 2 years and so I have already booked a DCL cruise on the Wonder for next October 2008 on her short week.
I love being able to plan ahead.

She is on the A/B honor roll and has remain there in order too keep getting to go on vacations during the school year...:goodvibes

Good luck whatever you decide.

Michelle

Our family use to miss a week of school for Disney trips and it aint makes nos difurances to nons of us. :)

You bet. Every year so far. We are to busy during summer to be able to go. That and the fact that free-dining is always after our school starts. We can't afford to miss the savings.
Granted our kids are very very good students and still pretty young (6th&2nd) but I think we will continue as long as the kids want to go.

i will be traveling to florida in may and my family will be taking me out out school for 6 days i am a high school student so it will be more difficult to catch up on work but those in elementary dont miss much

Absolutely ... although we always scheduled our trip during a short school week, so that they'd miss no more than 4 days. But that's when they were in the lower grades. Because when our kids reached high school and had harder classes and several teachers to deal with, they were uncomfortable with having to miss several days of school at a time ... so our going during slower time periods stopped. If your kids are good students, I would definitely take advtange of going off-season while they're young.

Last year was my oldest ds's first year of elementary school and the week we were in WDW were the only days that he missed. Luckily we had a kindergarten teacher that loves Disney and she even took a week off to go during the school year. :) We made sure that my son did the work that was scheduled for that week and we'll be doing the same this year.

Yes, I have every other year... This will be the 3rd time.... Seeing that you spend so much $$ and time planning your vacation, I try and go when it is less crowded and this year we got free dining so that was a bonus as well.

I believe it is a personal call, I get plenty of attitude from people for doing this... But it didn't stop us this year!

You betcha! We took them out in '05 and we plan on taking them out for another week this September. The teachers in '05 didn't even give us any work to bring with us! They didn't have much to make up at all either. My girls maybe miss 2 days a year, so adding 5 for a vacation isn't a biggie to us!

We definately do! I will only go during slow season anymore, so we go ahead and take our DS out of school for a week. I always let the teacher know in advance and it has always worked out fine so far.

Same story here. DD was in Kindergarten this year and the ONLY 2 days she missed all year were the Mon and Tues before T-giving when we took her out for our trip.

We're pulling our older son out of K the week of Labor Day for our Disney trip. I wanted to plan for Sept because my husband is finishing a one-year tour in Iraq and he will be home by then. I don't expect to have any problems with ds missing K schoolwork, since he can already read. If the teacher or principal has an issue with missing school for our "Welcome Home Daddy Vacation" - they can kiss my big toe! ;)
