Do you wear sandals in the winter at DLR?

This may be a crazy question, but we are from the Midwest where Keens and flip flops are usually packed away until spring. My question is, do any of you wear these to the parks in the winter time? We are going in December and I would usually wear my Keens. Will I freeze during the day? I'm not a socks-with-sandals kind of gal. I will most likely change into something warmer for the evening (I know temps can get really cool).

Thanks for any advice that you have!:santa:

I do! I wear my flip flops but bring my Privos and store them in a locker in case my feet start to hurt.

I don't think it will be the weather that stops you rather it will be comfort. Friday I saw two girls walking barefoot carrying their flip-flops. I always recommend a supportive athletic type shoe.

I wear my Reef flip-flops in the summertime but in the winter I wear tennis shoes. I don't like any of the water rides so I don't have to worry about wet shoes and socks and my feet are more comfy in tennis shoes. I hate sweaty feet so that's why I do Reefs in the summer.

I have worn them before in early December. It can get cold at night, but if you are pretty tough I say give it a shot, maybe bring a pair of regular shoes or socks if you are concerned.

One of my favorite things about a winter trip is to leave the snow behind so I can walk in my Chacos for a couple days.

It also depends on what kind of climate you're used to. In the winter you will see some people in shorts and sandals. These are most likely people from colder climates. The people bundled up in coats, scarves, hats, etc are most likely the locals. :rotfl2:

I am a native Californian, and have been to Disneyland in December several times. I don't wear sandals or flip flops on these trips--because once the sun goes down (very early compared to spring-summer) it can get very chilly. Last year I not only wore socks and my great Mephisto tennis shoes, but a down coat for fire works. I was so glad I had it! I wouldn't want my kids to be in sandals at this time of the year, either.

Yes, you will see people at the park in the middle of the day with flip flops in winter, but once the sun sets, you will see most rational people with jackets, socks and shoes.

Here is a picture of us in December waiting for Fireworks--see how sandals would be out of place? Check out my red nose--and that wasn't for Rudolph--it was cold!

I've worn my Crocs in December, but I also bring athletic shoes to switch around with. In '07, our September trip was colder than our December trip! :)

I don't wear flip flops or sandals in the summer. So no, in the winter I definitely don't wear them. My feet need more support then any sandal/flip flop I've ever found and I seriously LOVE flip flops, I will wear them as long as I possibly can and yes, even in the winter sometimes. :)

FWIW I would suggest being aware of the weather predictions for your visit, many times in winter we've been and it's simply been to wet (rainy) or cold for sandals. Always be sure you have a back up shoe just in case. :)

I should mention that, having lived in western WA off and on (more on) since I was 17, I have NO problems wearing socks (even wool ones!) with sandals, LOL. So if I'm in my Crocs towards the end of a day and it gets cold, I just put my socks on. :) easy peasy. I also wear athletic shoes with skirts (started that growing up in CA!). I just don't care what others think about my feet! :goodvibes

I wear well-supportive athletic shoes with socks. DL is a lot of standing and I own Keens, Chacos, Reefs, and Montrails - all are not supportive enough for my feet over the long days and nights at DL.

Bring whatever you feel appropriate and watch the weather before you pack.

LOL..We always say that too. Especially when we see people playing in the pools when we're in hoodies! I'm in flip flops as often as I can..just depends on what the weather will hold. We've had shorts on for Christmas day or rain..you never know.

I realize you said you're not a socks and sandals type of girl, and neither am I, but that's EXACTLY what I do in December at DL. I wear my Birkenstocks with socks and then take off the socks to stow away in my purse/mini-backpack as the day gets warmer. It's much easier to carry socks around than an extra pair of shoes. Since I've usually got jeans on at that time of year, no one can really see my feet that well, anyway.

I'm much more comfortable in my sandals than in tennis shoes, so this works well for me. :thumbsup2

I would go with whatever is most comfortable for you. At DLR, I only wear tennis shoes. I have found that Skechers are the best for my feet (for all day walking) so I only wear those, year round.

Now when we went to FL last August, I knew that my feet would need to breathe more so I wore Keens during the day and my Skechers at night.

I personally wouldn't wear sandals in the winter, just because I know my feet would be cold and if my feet are uncomfortable, the rest of me is as well ;) So it is tennis shoes and long pants in the winter for me.

But if sandals are more comfortable for you and you have something to change into a night if your feet get cold, then you should be fine :)
