I am not trying to sound stupid, but I am, fair skinned
and burn and peel more than tan.
It takes me aaaaaallllllll summer to get a base color. I am working on it now , bought sunscreen for the trip
and a bucket /safari hat. Do any of you wear them?
I thought maybe getting a few pins( I have none, yet...)
and placing them on the hat.
Suggestions please.
If I wear the orange crocs
with the hat, maybe I will look outlandish enough that
I will be NOT be grand marshall of the parade!
:rotfl: :rotfl2:
then again, i have no fashion hipness......
:dance3:

What time of year are you going? Because depending on the time of year the UV will be diffrent. We always go in Jan/Feb and the UV is lower, I being paler than pale still get a burn but no I dont wear a hat. I spend faaar to much on my hair to cover it with a hat. ( sorry Im a leo, its a leo thing) I do wear sunblock however. :)

WEAR THE HAT!!!!!!!!!!! I was diagnosed with Melanoma a couple of years ago so in my humble opinion I say wear it. :thumbsup2

:sunny: Yes I always wear a hat or sun visor. But now that my hair is thinning a little :faint: I put on a mickey hat to cover more of my head.
The bigger hats don't seem to fit my head. Shirley

I definitely have to wear a hat these days. Let's just say that I don't have quite as much hair as I did only 3 or 4 years ago, hehe! On a trip last May I had the top of my head burned a bit. That was pure misery! You'd better believe I've worn a hat on all trips since then, and (unfortunately) must continue to do so! Having a receding hairline sucks... :teeth: :rotfl:

Absolutely wear a hat, in fact wear several hats. Disney is the best place IMHO anywhere to wear hats, fannypacks (I wear one despite my kids thinking it's really lame), Mickey Mouse t-shirts, etc. etc. etc. You will NOT be the only one, tons of people wear hats. My brother and sister-in-law never go without one when they are in Disney and I've been known to wear my personalized Mickey Ears.

Have a Great Time!!

Wear a hat because vanity is not worth the burn. :sunny: I too am a melanoma survivor. I wore one last year. You can always put it in your bag when you are indoors.

Hehe, I agree with this. WDW is a place that you can get away with pulling off fashion faux-pas that you normally couldn't. Don't feel intimidated in the least, because down there, everyone is doing it! Now when I get back home, that's another story ... :lmao:

Floridian here. I wear moisturizer plus sunscreen and sunglasses every day, and add a hat if I'm going to be outside for than a few minutes. This is year round, and ESPECIALLY at WDW.

My DH would wear a hat to bed if he could...LOL He usually wears a hat, has another in his suitcase and buys a new one in the parks...

I always use suncreen, everyday and good dark glasses. I hate wearing a hat though. Last June we were at AK and I found myself digging in my fanny pack for my sunglasses, I was wearing them already! The sun was so intense. I went and bought a visor and wore it every day for the rest of the trip. It is waiting for our next trip in September.... Plus wearing a visor I don't need to mess with my hair much, just make sure I have some spray with suncreen in it. Don't want a burn on my head in the middle of the visor!

:sunny: :cool1: I definately will be wearing a hat and DGS the other 3 have very thick hair so it's not so necessary, but all of us will be wearing sunscreen 45 . DGS got a bad burn and she was wearing it but eas in water in between applications and we think that's how. :sunny: :sunny:

I live in baseball caps. I'm wearing one right now. I wear them all day, everyday, unless I'm going somewhere that matters. ;)

I have a skin condition called melasma, which causes brown spots on my face when exposed to the sun. Besides using an ultra powerful sunscreen (I have to buy it in Canada, they don't even sell it here), I always wear my caps.

I think I look cool. :cool1: ;)

Hair or not, I think the hat protects you from the HOT :sunny: beating down on your head(which seems to take its toll, sunburn not withstanding). It will also keep some of the sun out of your eyes and face.:earsboy:

Bucket hats are cool. I have a baseball type hat for myself and just bought DD8 one for the summer and our trip in October. Plus DH wears a bucket hat too. I agree with some of the others, if you burn easily or even if you don't, it's better to be safe and not sorry later.

My mother and I are both fair-skinned AND we have VERY thinning hair (a curse I inherited from her I guess). We ALWAYS wear our hats (we go in May) because if not, our scalps will burn and not only is it terribly uncomfortable, it could lead to serious health complications. I have a Tink baseball cap and she has a Girls Rule hat with Minnie and Daisy on it. We may not be the most attractive gals in the park, but we're comfortable!!!

I buy my sunscreen from Canada too because it contains Mexoryl which blocks UVA and UVB rays--which are both equally important as one affects the top layer of skin and the other affects the deeper layer which causes damage and winkles and burning. There is nothing on the market in the USA that is as effective as sunscreen with Mexoryl...I call it my illegal drug of choice :thumbsup2 You can find it here on line www.jandrugs.com It is a Canandian on line pharmacy but you do not need a prescription to buy it.

I have found the spf 15 to be good for us but you choose what is good for you. This is THE greatest sunscreen you will ever use nothing comes close. Even if the labels (US made) say they block UVA and UVB they don't come close. We travel to tropical climates often and have never burned when using this. It is also irritant free. Also when applying sunscreen make sure you cover your entire body with it. I use it like a moisturizer and I rub it into my skin at least a HALF hour before going in the sun. This is very important as I see so many people put their sunscreen on then jump in the water...where do you think that sunscreen is...what is most troubling is when I see parents to this with children. Sunscreen needs time to "work" by sinking into your skin. Make sure you also get the part in your hair and the tops of your feet and toes!

Mikki I agree about the hats but DD is vain and doesn't want th look funny! Girls will wear a visor or hat I think. The canadian sunscreen sounds great I'm checking with our agency pharmacists next week see if they can get it for me. If not I'm very close to Canada so will just go over.

Wear a hat!! Last time we were there, I burned my scalp. OUCH!!!
