I just got drive through food at a fast food place, and the total was $3.99. I gave her $4 and she asked me (with attitude) "do you want your penny ?

I'm thinking ... um yeah... I told her yes and she huffed at me!

I know it is just a penny... but a penny saved is a penny earned and I am wondering what she was planning to do with my penny? Isn't the drawer counted to make sure it evens up at the end of the day?

I just found this very strange.

Yes, that is odd!! Ummm, yes, I'd like my change, thanks! :p

At TRU we are not allowed to keep the penny, even if the guest tells us to! We have to leave it on the counter or we can get written up!!!

Our local Dunkin Donuts tries to keep the change all the time! You actually have to sit (at the drive through) at the window and wait for them to come back to you because they've closed the window and walked away. I've learned now and will hand them exact change.

I think that even if its just a penny, servers should make apoint to get yoiu your change, even if you say keep it, and they shouldnt start grabbing those on the counter when a person starts to dig the change out to make the last penny either. lewave those for the unlucky soul who really did nt have a penny in his pocket.

That's happened to me TWICE! (yes, I'm counting, lol). At the Wendy's drive-thru. Except she didn't ask me if I wanted my penny, she just didn't give it to me. I didn't sweat it, since I don't really care about a penny....but what if I DID care? Highly disturbing.

I went through a drive thru window the other day I paid the person and had a dollar and change coming to me. Since I was on the cell phone he closed the window and walked away.

I was distracted and drove off. When I got home I realized that I did not get any change back.

I wonder if these guys are trying to be tricky!!:scratchin

That is SUCH a fireable offense with my company!! You should let the manager know!

First it's a penny, before you know it, they are adding on an additional $ when they tell the customer how much their order comes to and pocketing the extra buck. That is why so many fast food places have the screens that show you the total now.

That happened to me at Long John Silvers yesterday! Only the total was 1.07 (I just wanted a fish sandwich to tide me over until dinner) and I gave the girl 10.12 so that I would get back 9.05. She tried to give me back 8.00! Don't the registers TELL them how much change to give back and if it doesn't why can't she add it up in her head like I did?! It was like she picked a number out of her head or something!

Coffee at the cafe in my office is $1.09. I hand over $1.10 and always tell them to keep the penny. I've been a few cents short for lunch a few times (I take more salad bar than I plan on or something) and they let it slide. It all evens out in the end!

No way the cashier should have had attitdue though! I worked that position at McD's for a year in high school, and let me tell you, you catch heck if the drawer doesn't balance at the end of the shift (short or over). She could have been trying to keep customer's change for herself (though why she'd want a penny, either, is beyond me!). I'd call and complain, myself (more about the attitude than the change).

I for one wish we would obolish the penny. Just round everything to the nearest $.05.

I'm surprised no one else says they keep their change for WDW. I have a piggy bank, and all my pennies (and sometimes other change) go in it for WDW. Whenever I have a penny of change coming, I say "don't forget my penny-that's my vacation account money!" Don't try to gyp me out of my WDW money!
