We are returning to "The World" next month. We have never brought our video camera.

Do you?
Why or why not?
Does your family go back and watch what you taped?

Any taping hints (for shows esp.)?

You are all awsome! :cheer2:

We video-taped when we were in the World last Dec., mainly because it was DBF's first trip there. We shot most of the parades and Fantasmic! . Just us two by ourselves, so no kids to film. Probably won't video on the next trip, though, because it eats up to much of my digital camera's battery and storage.

We plan to use digital video so that I can merge the digital photos that I take with video clips to make a video of our trip set to music.

We have a little digital video camera that's small enough to fit in a fanny pack. I never really feel like taking it- I'm always worried I'll lose it or drop it. But, my bf always wants to take it, so we do.

We hve kids...and take a camera...and a video camera. Some days we leave both locked up in the room....other days (those w/ a char meal) we often take both. Personally, I think it's a pain! But the kids DO love watching the parades on video and some of the shows. Personally, I'm still more a fan of the pictures (this yr we've gone digital)...just always feel like I'm missing something when I'm behind the video camera. jmo.

Our first family trip, mid 90's, I videotaped everything, every ride, every fireworks display, everything. I couldn't get my family to watch it. So when I went back and looked at the hours of videotape I had shot, I realized how much of the actual experience I had missed. Since then, I shoot very little, not even a lot of stills. We just don't look at them that much and we go often enough to make new memories. When I try to show them to outsiders, they don't get all that excited because it's so hard to capture the reality of it on the camera...just another opinion.

You mean you, gasp!, don't take a video camera? I thought that was against the law!!! :rotfl:
Seriously, we take our camera and video camera with us every day to the park. However, we have two small children who we love to capture on video. The more we go to WDW, the less we video. We don't video all the shows and parades now- got them all on video already. We mainly stick to the kids' favorite rides-Dumbo and Pooh, our favorite stuff- Tink flying during Wishes, and of course any interaction with the kids and characters. We use them at character meals especially, and meeting different characters in the parks. We try to remember to get some scenic shots or anything we haven't videod before- like this Dec. was our first MVMCP- so we used the video a lot that night.
I can see us not using it nearly as much- if any- if we didn't have children. But, not only do we love having those memories of our children, but they love watching them too- and then begging 'When can we go back?"

I love videotaping! We don't videotape every second of our trip, but we do take a few hours of film. We take turns videotaping so it's not one person that has to use it the whole time. My sister and I always watch our tapes, especially the ones from when we were really little.

I take my camcorder everywhere at WDW and on most vacations and trips. At Disney destinations I take a lot of video though not much while on the rides. It is ahobby for me to take all the footage home and edit it into something watchable. I watch much of my video's. The rest of the family and friends don't seem to care much. If you think you will watch it in the future go for it.

Mine too. They love to see what they looked like on past trips, and they like to reminisce (sp?) and talk about each thing as they watch it.

We were just looking at the photos from our October trip (finally got them printed & into an album) and DS3 saw one of himself dancing, while waiting in line to see Lilo & Stitch at MGM. He said, "yeah I was dancing to Hakuna Matata". I actually didn't remember what song was playing....but when he said that....I knew he was right.

....and people say they won't remember!

I don't know about WDW specifically and video cameras since I'm going in a few months. In previous vacations, dad was video taping.

however, we've gone on trip before and when we go back and lugged a camera it wasn't really that interesting. I like pictures, but the video camera adds too much to carry and also we end fooling with the camera we loose the experience on our vacation. So for WDW I do not think we will bring our video camera.

Our kids watch the old recordings over and over. Record more than you think you would want to watch.

I love to video tape when we go! We watch the tapes when we get back and remember all the good times. Also, it is fun to see how things change through the years. :flower:

One of my favorite videos is to put the camera on "night vision" and video in the haunted mansion! You call see all kinds of things with night vision that you miss when you are on the ride. You know how there are scrims? You can really see behind them with much more clarity! It's fun too see all the junk in there!! :cool1:

We do!! In fact, one of the times down there our video camera broke. We had to go to the Target and buy a new one.

We watch our videos and as we are watching them copy to DVD. My son loves to see the parades and character meet and greets we have been so lucky to have. :)

We taped a little bit our first family trip but didn't take it to the parks everyday. The following year we didn't even take the video camera and not sure about this trip. It's just another thing to carry and when we are all hot and sticky, it's a pain. Our video camera is not digital, although, our still camera is. We taped an awful lot when my ds was younger but each year, it gets less and less.

I can't even imagine not bringing ours and taping all those wonderful moments. We watch our videos from there a lot too.

Worst case scenario you would just wind up leaving the video camera in your room. Better to have it and not use it than to not have it and want to use it. You could always compromise and film yourselves around your resort if you don't want to take the camera to the park. :cool1:

Two years ago my family and I (mom, dad, me) took the video camera to WDW. My Dad carried it and I filmed everything I could. I would say do it once. I do look back and watch the shows/ rides on video. I haven't gotten a vacation since that time, so it is really great to watch something and remember. Yet even though there are no kids in the family (I am almost 20), my parents are kids. I catch my mom on tape "I touched Chip's hand, did you see that!" or my Dad "Catch the part where the bad guy is fighting Indiana Jones and the airplane comes!" So I say do it once, and if you don't want to watch it now, maybe two years down the line you will want to revisit those memories :)

Hello,

TAKE YOUR CAMERA!!!

I take my video camera and my DF takes his digital camera everywhere with us. We take it in turns to film with the video camera and take pictures with the digital camera so nobody misses out on anything.

I would rather miss a little bit of a parade/show there and then but have it recorded forever than see it just the once and hope my memory lasts.

Taping a holiday means you can keep the memories fresh forever.

Yes ...I bring the video. First of all you can never pose all the excellent shots that happen by just living. You can however film "just living" taking very high quality video and when that magical moment happens you're already filming anyway. AND if you are filming a good quantity...after a while people forget you are there... and you get better shots. Unless you are constantly posing people ...which you should never do in the first place because it hacks people off and you will get lousy shots unless your entire family can be "spontaneous" on cue.

But yeah I take a bunch. I film to the point that everyone forgets I am there. Or for that matter I leave, put on a mondo long lens and then I can get shots from far away.

I am very either or. I am either taking lots of shots and taking tons of film...or I am blowing off filming in favor of having a good time.
I have three cameras when we go on vacation 1) film still camera 2) underwater film camera, 3) camcorder with digital still capability. My girlfriend will carry a 4 megapixel and my daughter will carry a nexus film camera and a kodak easy share digital.

I wear a honkin fanny pack. Adn the GF's camera is pewny and the kids are pewny
