Do You Vacation Alone or w/ Family/Friends

UGH! I'd prefer to never travel with anybody but my own small family. I just know how I am -- very moody and I prefer to do things my own way. I'm far too non-confrontational to assert myself, so if I were to travel with someone, I'd probably never do what I wanted.

However, we did take one trip with my FIL and his wife one year and it turned out really great, so I don't know what I'm worried about.

The only trip DH and I have been alone on was our honeymoon. We've vacationed with my family, his family and friends. All of which we've enjoyed. I don't think I'd go back to WDW with friends again unless it was a couple. We NEVER got any alone time the 7 days we were there.

We've done both, but prefer just ourselves. My favorite part of a vacation is watching the kids get to really know one another again...as they're kind of "forced" to have to interact with each other. We've got a mini-van, but to keep down miles on the van, we've rented a car to take on vacation. One unseen benefit was that instead of the kids being spread out all over the van in their own little world, they were in the backseat together and really connected with one another again. Sure, there was a little of "he's touching me" but no worse than in the van. (I remember my daughter telling us "tell Ben to quit looking out my window").

The times we've gone with other families, the kids pair up with their friends and we hardly get to spend time doing things as a family, because all the kids are running around with their friends. I think our kids have picked up on this at times, and you see them trying to pull back from the friends to just spend time with us.
