Do you use Pea Pod grocery delivery?

I just placed my first order with Pea Pod. My groceries will be delivered tomorrow between 9:30am and 1pm. (I got $1.00 off because of choosing this bigger delivery window). My sister and niece who live in NJ have been using Pea Pod for about a year and they like it, so I thought I'd give it a try.

If you use Pea Pod, how have you found their service to be? Thanks!

P.S. Do you tip? Flat tip amount, or percentage? On the website it says that tips are not expected, but are appreciated. I'm sure we'll tip, I can't imagine not tipping the guy who brings me a week's worth of food when I do tip the guy who brings me pizza or Chinese food. LOL

I use them when in an emergency.. I always tip the driver usually the same person, again and again..

I've used Peapod many times over the last couple of years. It is a handy service when life gets busy or when your back hurts and you don't want to load the groceries into the cart, unload the groceries onto the belt (granted, this part can be avoided if you use the hand scanners and fill your bags as you shop), load the car, unload the bags from the car, and bring them into the house. I LOVE that all I have to do is put the groceries away when I use Peapod since they bring them right to my kitchen table! This is even better when needing cases of water or soda for picnics and parties - I don't have to deal with those heavy boxes.

If I buy at least $100 worth of items, the delivery fee is only about $6.95, and that can be discounted with occasional coupons or selecting the larger delivery windows. While they don't double coupons, you can give your coupons to the driver and you get a credit a few days later. I also like that there are good sales each week, even if they don't exactly match the same items that would be on sale at the store that week. I also don't think the "regular" Peapod prices are much higher than my local store, though that could be due to the fact that my local store has higher prices than the sister store two towns away so I am used to the slightly higher prices (we have only the one grocery store in town, so there is no competition).

For small orders, I tip about $5. If it is bad weather, or if I have a large order with lots of heavy items, I tip more. I usually tip in cash, but I didn't have cash one day and added the tip to the delivery confirmation form in the space provided to do so. I was a bit put off, though, when as I was apologizing to the driver for not having cash, he looked a bit disgruntled and told me that cash is better because Peapod adds the "charged" tips to his paycheck and then takes out taxes. He is supposed to claim those cash tips and pay the taxes anyway, but clearly he wasn't doing that. Other than this one instance, though, the drivers have been great and the deliveries have come during the window selected (once, though, a driver actually called me to ask if he could come 30 minutes early :) ).

All in all, I give high marks to Peapod.

My ds and his roommates used them all the time when he was in college. They had an apartment in D.C. and it was easier than grocery shopping. That was the first time I ever heard of them.

PeaPod sent an email last night narrowing my delivery window for today, so I appreciated that since the window I initially chose was 3.5 hours. :hourglass

The driver carried in all the bags at once, and carried them right to my kitchen table. The only small snag was that I had noted for them to come to my side door which is a porch that leads directly to my kitchen, but he came to the front door. I didn't say anything to him about it because I didn't want to complain about something that was fairly minor. If the delivery person comes to the front door again, then I will ask them to please come to the side door in the future.

My order was perfect. Every thing that was delivered was exactly what I had ordered. :thumbsup2 I tipped him in cash. I did see the space on the invoice where I could've written in a tip, but I had cash on hand this time.

I like that they offer delivery times that will save you money especially since they are the time frames that are most convenient to me anyway, and they give you $1.00 off when you use your checking account to pay (EFT). Since I'd be using my Visa debit card anyway, I signed up for that and will save $1.00 off each order.

I will definitely be using them regularly, especially when my fibromyalgia is flaring up as it is right now and I've been working longer hours at work. DS22 works evenings/nights so he sleeps during the day; DS19 works weekends and is at college during the week; DH works all day and then comes home and works in his workshop or on his computer, and we'd rather spend our free time doing other things, so this is a great service for us. ::yes::

I'm glad your first order went well. I wanted to mention that should you ever be missing anything from your order, or find a broken egg or squished bread, give customer service a quick call or send them an email. I've only had such things happen maybe two or three times over several years, and their customer service has been GREAT!
