Do you use a clothes line in the summer?

YesI do , I love that fresh air smell and especially now that our propane price is $3.68 /gal (even more reason)!

Clothes line spring,summer and fall. Clothes bars in the winter. Dryer for mostly towels and underwear. My DD, 16. won't wear her pants if they are dried in the dryer. She doesn't like the feel I guess.

I prefer the dryer, but it's a moot point since we're not even allowed to have clotheslines here.

They're forbidden by the HOA.

Same here. Plus, I always hated hanging out clothes and taking them down when I was growing up.

Year round dryer user, here. Don't want pollen, bird droppings, or any other nature kind of things clinging to my clean clothes.

Ditto here. Not to mention the fact we have nowhere to hang a clothesline and when you are height challenged (read: wheelchair) it would be pointless to try

I hang clothes out in summer. I just love the smell of line-dried clothing and esp sheets! Other advantages are that it saves $$ in two ways- the dryer doesn't heat up the house, so the a/c works less and obviously, I don't pay to run the dryer (gas and elec.)
I also tend to get the laundry done quicker. I don't want to leave clothes on the line so as I take the clothes down I fold them right there and put them in a basket. With the dryer I often take them out of the dryer and just lay the clothes flat without folding. Then I put off the folding and the pile just grows. It's weird, I know.

I do bath towels in the dryer year-round for the fluffy softness the dryer brings.

I'm with you. Anything that saves me money on electricity. I also don't put the towels outside but the sheets and bedding yes.

I have no where good in my yard to put a clothes line. Plus, I live right next to a forest and we have tons and tons of birds. Just my luck, I'd hang something outside and have it get pooped on and stained

No, we have a HOA that restricts it, but I dry my clothes on clothes racks indoors.

I don't like the pollen and bugs either, though.

I love the smell of clothes dried on the line but I can't do it because of allergies - it's one of the worst things you can do if you have any sort of weed or pollen allergy

Unless it's raining or snowing I always hang my clothes outside on the line. I love the smell of fresh clothes and I am less likely to shrink things in the dryer that way. I also have a wooden clothes rack inside for when I can't hang things outside. Personally I hate using the dryer. I hated having to use it during college. I shrunk a bunch of clothes and most just didn't hold up very well. I was so happy to come home and be able to hang things outside again.

Seems we are in the minority in this poll-- I guess having 4 kids automatically makes us more thrifty!

Definately a clothsline spring summer and fall. There's a drastic difference in my gas/electric bill when I quit using the dryer. Part of the savings funds our Disney trips so I'll be happy to hang 'em out and take 'em down! As for the birddroppings and bugs....never have had a problem with that. Freshly washed sheets from the line are wonderful!

We don't use a clothes line. If we wanted to, there are strict association rules about the hours that clothes can be left hung out to dry.

I love to hang my clothes outside. I never had bird droppings either and how do you see pollen? I don't have allergies so maybe that is it. Love the smell of sheets outside too. Haven't had a problem with bugs either

Around here you can see the pollen in the very early spring (I'm still trying to get all the yellow off my poor car), but most of the year you can't. It's not the visability of pollen for everyone that's the issue. Even if you can't see it, it's there. Obviously that's not a problem for everyone (it's not for most of my family), but for those with allergies it's a nightmare.

We have had bird droppings on our clothes on occasion, but it's usually one item out of many, so we just rewash that one item and we're all set. When my mom was a single mom she hung EVERYTHING outside (before I developed allergies). Even in the winter. It saved a lot of money so that it could be spent on things a bit more fun (vacations, Christmas, etc)

I don't have a clothes line, but I'd love to have one! I wouldn't hang everything outside though, I have way too much laundry for that.

I have a clothesline but rarely use it because I am lazy
We just got our electric bill for last month and between the air conditioning and the pool it was huge! I am looking for ways to cut back without totally giving up my cool air. I have quite a few loads of laundry to do today so I think I will hang some outside. I don't do towels, jeans or undies outside because they get too stiff but everything else is fair game. Another added bonus is my laundry will get done faster. I can put one load of wash in the dryer and the next outside so I am not always waiting for the dryer to finish.
I hate laundry.

Wow, never knew bugs/bird droppings were such a problem. Never had a single dropping and only a few bugs that grabbed on, no big deal at all. Actually, I just think that it is some peoples excuse because they assume it is a problem....but have probably never tried

We live in a new development still under construction, so no clothes line for me with all the dust and construction dirt in the air. However once the construction is finished, I would like to try and have at least a small line outside. I miss my line from my old house. I love towels and sheets hung outside, you can't beat that smell.

I much prefer to hang my clothes out year round. It's pretty funny to bring jeans in off the line in the winter and stand them up by themselves! I do put towels in the dryer occasionally, but I am cheap so like to let the sunshine dry them. I refuse to wash sheets unless they can go out. Waste of propane in my opinion.
